Rarely would I say this about a documentary. Even rarer about a modest budget film about something/someone I had never heard of before seeing the film.

If anyone pitched this story as a work of fiction, no studio would believe it. It's mythical, but it's also very real and human.

I don't want to tell too much of the story, because you will want to discover it yourself. It's one that could not happen today but because of today we are able to learn of it and marvel at all the twists and turns.

We see kids from an awful place and time learn about hope from a person who becomes a legend without ever knowing it is happening.

There's a man who was everyman with a magical talent. His humility and humanity are even larger.

PLEASE don't do any research other than to see if it's playing where you live. Live the story as you see it on the screen. It will be much better.

Not on list yet but hopeful a/perture picks it up. Be a nice flick to watch with a 22oz Hoppyum in hand.

Saw this at West End in DC on Friday. Absolutely fantastic. The way they reveal different aspects of the story/legend/whatever is pretty impressive. Agree with RJ here.

I'm very excited to see this. Good to know it's good. I saw a trailer for it at Aperture when I was back in NC. Rodriguez is a special talent, one of those guys that completely falls through the cracks in the US, but is a legend pretty much everywhere else. I'm thrilled that this will be around NYC for awhile.

Some consider the bottom song the Blowin In the Wind of South Africa. When it came out, the South African government scratched every copy of this song they could find.

As good as the music is, the story is incredibly better.

If this doesn't win an Oscar, there is no justice.

I just looked up the West End Cinema on Google because I've never heard of it. I work a block away and have probably walked by it 100 times and had no idea it existed. Weird. Will have to check it out.

THERE IS JUSTICE!

Seriously though, saw this last night and it was indeed good. The whole movie, I was going nuts trying to figure out how the hell I already knew the song "Sugar Man," as obviously it wasn't a radio song. Figured out it was used on David Holmes's Come Get It, I Got It album several years back:

It's on Time Warner on demand for $5. Worth it! Awesome movie.
