Suspension/Arrest Thread (No New News)

Well, the statement that Wellman doesn't interfere is not the same as saying that he could not interfere if he chose to do so...after all, he is the AD.

Frankly, using this quote to apply to this situation is lame.

That said, the AD's office should issue some statement.

Just getting really hard to support Wake Forest Sports. In a very short time we have hired an idiot as a head basketball coach, who then ran off most of the players, we have a head coach who is getting lazy and now doesn't even control his own team and lies to the best friend he has in the media and an AD who goes over his coach on this, but does nothing about abysmal coaching of the team. This team was getting hard to be excited about before this-- now I just don't know-- maybe we are really not so different after all

I really appreciate what Coach Grobe did back in 2004-2008, but since then I feel just like you Bud. And BBall is just a train wreck. Even when we manage to win a game, it doesn't feel right in either sport. It's been a long time since anything felt special about football and basketball. I'm a Deac for life, but not proud right now. Feels like back in the old days - LOWF.

Odd that, for so long, it seemed as though Grobe had Wellman by the scrotum. Now it looks like the other way around.

What's the issue with the earlier quote with the AD reference? I'm not sure I see any huge issue other than irritation over what occurred with the suspensions.

I'm a long time fan also and as much as I do want to, I have to agree with this. I have more hope for basketball right now than for football...which isn't much. For some reason, football hasn't seemed right for a long time now. WHAT IS GOING ON?

not sure where folks are concluding that collins is pissed at grobe. collins is pissed at the other media sources that stole his scoop without attribution. what am i missing?

His latest blog doesn't indicate irritation with Grobe that I can tell.

Not sure I understand most of these posts. Seems like everyone is upset at Grobe because they probably made a bet and took Wake and the points. It is football not golf and coaches screw with the opposition all the time. The most upseting thing is the selfish behavior of 6 young men. If there is any sliver lining it is that Wellman is finally tapping Grobe on the shoulder. Perhaps one of these days he will man up and demand that Lobotomy and Bend-and-break-often-Knorr are canned.

The way things are going, we will have a new AD and some new head coaches before too long. While Dr Hatch does not seem overly focused on athletics, I bet he realizes the boat is taking on water and he cannot enjoy looking out on empty seats in the Joel and BBT, knowing that the college's subsidy of the athletic department must be growing. Dr Hatch has turned over the leadership in just about every department since arriving - Med school, Univ hospital, Bus school, Divinity school, Dean of College, College CFO, Head of Student Placement, Head fundraiser, etc. etc. The law school and AD may be the lone holdovers. TIme to turn some attention to the athletics dept.

Seems to me that he should be pissed at both unless he believes that Coach Grobe really didn't think they would be suspended until they were today.

Everything that I've seen points to the fact that Ron Wellman told Coach Grobe they were suspended and he had no say in the matter. It's not that I think Coach Grobe can do no wrong, but based on the reactions to everything I tend to think that Coach Grobe "decided" on the punishment and was then overruled.

Also, this is secondary at this point but I saw Bud Noel and I think DeAndre Martin today on University at around 1-2. Apparently they rear-ended a car. I knew it was Bud and that's when I knew he wasn't in College Park for sure. Odd situation to say the least. They were right in front of me when it happened and I'm 99% sure it was Bud.

Hope the driver was not high at the time

Wake just manages to screw everything up.

Suspend them early in the week and there's no issue. Don't suspend them and there's no issue. Wait until Friday after you've told the beat writer there would be no suspensions the day before, and then suspend players: BIG FUCKING ISSUE.

How easy was it to manage this situation? It was so easy. And Wake still fucked it up.

No, Grobe fucked it up. Sound to me like he tried to slide this one past everybody and Wellman put a boot up his ass.

It doesn't really make sense that Grobe would lie yesterday and then wake up today and say "AHHHHH YESSSSSS TODAY IS SUSPENSION DAY" and then inform some random CBS outlet about it who picked it up first or whatever happened.

Esp after having these guys on the scout team all week.

This still seems weird to me. If it is their first positive test(and with Martin it seems like it would be), and past precedent says no punishment, why are they on the practice squad all week. And then now why are they suspended?

My thing is I don't care if they're suspended for the first test (sucks given the rest of the country and their respective practices) but I do care that we wait until Friday to suspend them. It's a BS move.

Yeah we knew that for some it wasn't their first positive, that's why I thought it would only be a couple guy suspended though.

If we have six repeat weed offenders testing positive all at the same time, then I'd say it's indicative of a pretty pervasive problem program-wide.

Appears that it's time for a new head coach with a much less hands-off approach to things.
