Suspension/Arrest Thread (No New News)

I haven't heard of any behind-the-scenes issues but that doesn't mean that there aren't any. I think that we might have heard of them by now if there were though.

I'm just worried that these suspensions might not just be one game. I don't have any reason to believe they aren't, but it's disappointing that some of our key players are involved in these problems.

I agree with everything except your comment on the DL. They were dominant today. It was the one shining light in an otherwise dismal performance. When Nikita is healthy we are solid in that aspect. And he was way healthy today.

Doesn't mean they're not undersized and in the wrong formation.

There is plenty to harp on other than our defensive front. Did you watch the game today? They were dominant. They may be small but they are beyond quick off the ball. You get the last word as always... go for it.

That game today was terrible and both those teams were god awful, but neither are the worst in the conference. BC is definitely the worst in the division and the conference.

That being said, Maryland sucks. They're awful, and we just lost to them. That's sick.

It was just sad. Maryland is a horrible team. Our players, the suspended, let Wake down today. There is no way we should have lost to that Maryland team. No way. And so it goes.

Yep. I watched the game today. I liked what I saw from our 3 D-linemen. I liked it so much I wish we had a 4th one out there.

All I could think about while watching the game was Maryland fans saying they thought they would win by 5 touchdowns. How bad would we have had to have been to lost by 5 TD's to that team we played today?

This was the worst loss we've had in quite some time. I can't even remember a worse lose. 2008 against Navy? I don't even know. This was sickening. Maryland is just fucking terrible and we lost to them. I wanna vomit.

I don't get how you think they are in the wrong formation when our best defensive player thrives in it. Do you want to run the 4-3 which Nikita doesn't play well in?

Ph, I swear you pick fights just to fight them sometimes. There are plenty of things to be upset about this year, but the play of Redding, Thompson, Nikita and Hazime (and sometimes Harris) is so far down on the list it's hilarious anybody would bring them up, especially on a night after they played their best game in quite some time.

I hear you. Duke was bad. I thought I saw two bad teams last week. I saw two worse teams this week.

Doofus, I swear you don't understand what the hell I'm talking about because you're so eager to fight. We have talent at DL that is not being properly used in our current formation. They don't match up sizewise with a 3-4 set and as a unit, they're stronger than our LBs. We could get more out of the positions in a 4-3 set.

They do match up in the 3-4 that we play though. It's not a Dallas Cowboys or San Diego Chargers 3-4 where you have a huge NG that just fills up room The 3-4 we run is set up specifically for Nikita Whitlock to wreak havoc, which he does game in and game out.

If we ran a 4-3 then Nikita wouldn't be nearly as effective, if at all. Why eliminate our best defensive player as a threat just to add a mediocre defensive player to the mix? Do the pros of adding Hazime or Harris to every snap outweigh the cons of having Nikita be ineffective? I don't think so.

It's not like 4 linemen get 1-1/3rd the production of 3. The jobs change and Nikita has the right job for him in the 3-4.

Nikita would be useless in a 4-3. End of story. In a 3-4 both guards have to commit to the double team. In a 4-3 one guard has to commit. I'm sure I'm missing something here because it seems so obvious. Nikita was in Marylands backfield half the afternoon. To the left, to the right, sometimes right through the hapless Mayland center. He brought his stuff today. And we ran plenty of shifts and brought up a linebacker effectively running a 4-3 at the last moment. Just saying. The least of our worries at this point.

You aren't. It's just Ph being Ph...that was my point.

Even with our attrocious passing game I think we should have been able to run the ball for a win easily. Harris was getting good yardage but Lobo kept trying to force the passing game. We were never down more than 5 points the entire game, yet Tanner threw 38 times? Lobo is freaking stubborn! Tanner was 4-16 in the 2nd half.

As if I'm the only person here who thinks we'd be more effective in a 4-3?

I would love for you to break it down on these message boards as to why we would be more effective in a 4-3 than a 3-4.

Do you seriously think that you know more than our coaching staff, who is paid inordinate amounts of money to think about these things for their job? Why do you think you know more than Coach Grobe does about what defense suits our personnel best.

Also, if it is such an easy decision to run the 4-3 instead of the 3-4 then why aren't we doing it? Do you really think that some random person on a message board knows how to run a better defense than a head coach of a football team in the ACC?

If you do then just tell me now so I can stop reading things you post because that is just asinine. I'm not one of those people that thinks anything our coaching staff does is foolproof, but I think you are way off base here. It's insulting to the coaches in my opinion for you to believe that this is such an easy choice to switch over to.

Go ahead and break it down for us so we can see why the 4-3 would be more effective. I want to see pros and cons, specifically related to teams that we play on a regular basis, players we have on our roster and future recruiting plans so I will know how the 4-3 will work.

We will be able to go to a 4-3 if they want to soon. It was a no-brainer earlier because of our horrid lack of talent on the D-line, but now that we've got line recruits rolling in...

I'm honestly fine with a 3-4 though. I'd even be fine with a 3-3-5. Its not like these formations were created because they don't work.

The defense did more than it's job yesterday, maybe we need to worry more about offensive schemes or the lack of one.
