WFU Hoops: '24-'25 Roster Construction Thread: (-) Carr, Monsanto, Ituka, Clark, Miller, Marsh, Keller, Canka / (+) Spillers, Biliew, Cosby

Nobody is making me follow the rules when I'm behind a tree on the golf course, but I do anyway. I hope you're kidding about not paying but not sure...

Law of averages? We have to have things go our way eventually, right? Right? RIGHT!?

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

I know it was a crazy hypothetical... Football is unique in creating all the revenue so there really isn't a good counter-example. This is insulting and I really don't appreciate it. I know you are undepheated but you are not unassailable, no matter what you think. I realize all the same...

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

Since we are resorting to insults now I think you are a fucking idiot who looks for race-based monsters under every bed. There may be schools in the northern US where most of the athletics revenue is brought in by ice hockey - a sport dominated by white guys. Are you saying those schools would...

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

Don't change my argument. I didn't say race wasn't "a factor in late 20th century higher education". What I did say was that the tremendous increase in the cost of higher education was not caused or contributed to by the fact that more people of color were attending college - and I believe that.

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

So you say "First, there are plenty of examples of spending less on students as the students become more diverse. College education was free or heavily subsidized until colleges and universities became heavily integrated. Then the cost of education skyrocketed because all of a sudden white...

I don't know how we would prove that either way but I guess we just disagree....

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

No - I think it is dumb because it is total bullshit. There are plenty of instances in society where the concepts you are talking about apply - but I really believe that race plays zero role in this one. Are you saying that if a sport made up of primarily white athletes was generating all the...

Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

So you believe that money from football goes to support the non-revenue sports at universities BECAUSE the football players are largely POC and many of the athletes in the non-revenue sports are not? Because I do not believe that and think it is literally dumb to make race part of the...

I think it is really cheap and dirty to try and make this a racial issue...

    Wake Golf 2024 - Women’s ACC Tournament April 18-21; Men's ACCT April 19-22

FYI - Asking for more than 1 ACC title in 20 years is not asking to dominate like the old days.

Just curious how you think endowments are relevant here? There is zero chance that any school is going to dip into their endowment to buy athletes.

I know no one cares anymore, but, it would be interesting to compare 5 year graduation rates of Div. 1 basketball and football players before the relaxed transfer rules and NIL and after. Obviously excluding the kids that leave early and get drafted... I worry about the kids that are not at...

Huh? Coaching salaries and facilities are very different from directly paying players. I know some players got bags before but it was clandestine, carried some risk, and was generally on a much smaller scale. Certainly no billionaire could offer to pay an entire team $5M each as was the...

This is the funny part - funny weird, not funny ha-ha... The players are not getting a "cut of the money". I was talking to a sports fan friend of mine last night and he didn't really understand that. He was saying how glad he was that the players were getting to share in all the billions...

I know Wake is not unique in losing a lot of players these days, but, it feels like an awful lot of our players take the first opportunity to get the hell out of Dodge. There are other places where players stay - even when expected to leave - why not Wake? Duke and UNC are two obvious examples...

The main purpose of all the old NCAA rules - the transfer rules, the rules against paying players and against allowing players to make money on their name or otherwise, etc. - was to control recruiting and to try and even the playing field. It wasn't to exploit the players - no matter what...

This system is not good for most players either. Players are transferring once, twice, etc. for an extra $50k here or $100k there - most of them are not going to play professionally - or, if they do, it will be overseas for a few years or something. Then what? I know a college degree may not...
