11 of 15

And one of those years where we didn't was when we had that crappy year with EW and JG but made a little prick tease tourney run.

Wake's lost 11 of the last 15 times in the first round of the ACC tournament.

Just no accountability

So? We've had suck a$$ teams the last 5 years, so why get bent out of shape over a 1st round loss when your team has little talent? It was the CP3 years under Skip and the Dino years where I was disappointed at our early ACCT and NCAAT exits.

Why, Skip's teams never did well in March. They never played any defense. No helpside and never cut off the baseline.

You forgot never fought through screens or hedged.

Is anyone really surprised when a talentless team loses early? But when you have a ranked team, especially a couple of those teams that had earlier achieved a #1 ranking, then yes, some of those Skip and Dino teams were extremely disappointing.

Yet he was still a vastly better at being a basketball coach than you have ever been at anything.

Completely missing the point. I'm not harping on Manning or even the [Redacted] era. I'm pointing out complete futility in the signature event of the basketball season. An event our fundraising arm continues to bill as a highlight for accumulating donor points.

My post is just a data dump. Reading this thread made me think "I really can't remember us really being a force in the first round consistently" so I looked up our history in the 1st round and found that indeed these last 15 years are more futile than our historical competitiveness level.

Or maybe we have some clustered success that skewers the overall results. From 94-97 (which coincides with a certain future HOFer's tenure) we were 4-0. From 71 to 93 we were 6-17 (26.1%), which is rather in line with 4-11 (26.7%). Up to (and including) 1970 we were a 1st round power: 13-4 (76.5%).

I'll state the obvious because someone will inevitably bring in some #analysis to say that the 1st round match-ups in the old (say pre Miami) ACC were a lot more difficult. A 3 seed would perhaps put you up against an NCAA bubble team, which isn't remotely comparable to the crap-fests 1 round games are now.

Can someone crunch the numbers on what our record (this season, and historically in the first round of the ACCT) would be with Bob Knight at the helm?

BUT WHAT ABOUT WHEN CARL TACY WAS COACH11?!

Looks like Gentleman Carl had about 5 total first round ACCT wins. His first ever ACCT game was an OT win over UNC in the 1973 tourney. We went to the finals in 1978 against Duke--GMan, Sparnarkal & Banks--national TV on ABC.

The 70's (1973-1979) were rough for Tacy in the ACC Tourney. Only made it past first round twice ('73 & '78) Did better in the 80's (1980-1985). Made the semis in '81, '82, '84. Played UNC a lot in ACC Tourney ('73, '74, '75, '78, '80, '81, '85) and only won one of those ('78 Semis)

73 Tacy beat UNC. I think those two wins over UNC were the only times he beat a higher seed in 13 years.

THIS. It is an outrage that Ron Wellman is AD. Obviously with Nathan Hatch as president, accountability means nothing.
