'19 Special & '20 Congressional Election Thread

I never got the Kennedy family fascination. Joe Sr. was a bootlegger, market manipulator and Nazi sympathizer. Okay, I won't hold the bootlegger thing against him. I remember reading that during the 1960 primary a reporter asked Harry Truman if the reason he was opposing Kennedy was his catholicism. Harry responded, "it's not the pope, it's the pop." Some years earlier during an argument with Joe, Harry had to be pulled off Joe when he tried to strangle Joe. And it was Joe's mob connections which bought Jack Illinois. But apparently Bobby hadn't gotten that memo when he became AG.

Geez. That's even worse than just an endorsement.

Martha McSally, with a straight face, suggest that her supporters should skip a meal and donate that money to her campaign. Republican politicians are basically televangelists.

If Markey wins, and I hope he does, it may well spell the end of the Kennedy dynasty in Massachusetts. That state has had a number of family political dynasties come and go, including the Adamses, Saltonstalls, and Lodges, whom the Kennedys replaced as the leading New England political family when JFK beat Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. in the 1952 Massachusetts Senate race. If Markey wins it may be a sign that the Kennedys are finally in political decline, even in their home state. We'll know soon enough.

There's a Kennedy running for Congress in New Jersey. She's married to one of Ted's sons, and her ads include language on "continuing the Kennedy legacy."

Listening to Boston radio now and the Kennedy ads have a message of "it's time for a change." So vote for a Kennedy???

LOL

Even worse because its how people think it would be pronounced if they weren't from the area.

I love how Wasserman calls races like he’s Mills Lane in the 2nd round of a Tyson fight.

Democratic Socialist Erika Uyterhoeven won by a wide margin in my local Massachusetts house primary. Strong ground game from what I saw.

A truly historic night. For the first time ever a Kennedy has lost an election in Massachusetts. Looks like the old family dynasty just isn't what it used to be. Given young Joe's age though, my guess is that he'll run for another office again at some point. Still, it does look as if the Kennedy grip on the Bay State is finally over. I'm old enough to remember when a Kennedy victory in that state was simply taken for granted, like death and taxes.

Both senate seats are now held by 70-somethings who will be 75 and 81 when they're up for re-election. Warren could be in the Biden administration. Joe could have waited instead of risking the ill will from this race.

Look at Somerville getting all radical!

I've said for years Kennedy had a logjam problem. He probably thought he had a chance to just oust Markey without Markey running...whoops. If he runs in a primary for governor he's gonna lose to Maura Healey to the same coalition he lost to tonight. I voted for Markey and thought he was the clear better choice.
