Wake would never hire Drew nor with many other schools. It would be one thing if his tactics were only questioned in coming back from the Dave Bliss debacle as there has been a lot of coaching churn in the past eighteen years. However, it has been consistent through a generation of insiders.
Add on top of that the history of Baylor allowing and covering up criminal activity throughout this century is another factor.
That place stinks to high heaven and has for a while.
The Bliss shit is ancient history, made worse by the fact that a kid was killed. But neither Baylor nor Bliss killed that kid. Bliss used his death to cover up his own violations, which is deplorable, but separate from the issue of the violation itself. Now if you're talking about Briles, I'd agree that there is some stinkiness going on there, though I think Briles was largely the fall guy for a bigger problem of negligence within the Waco PD and bad looks in the administration. They were willing to cut ties with a top 5 football coach to save bigger fish, a story as old as politics.
If there are similarities between Briles and Drew, it's that they both largely thrived on recruiting 3 and 4 star guys to suit their style and used them with great success. People started to get suspicious of Drew when he was pulling 5 stars to Waco for a few years. He got Perry Jones to commit before he was anybody and Jones honored that commitment because he didn't like how the other schools recruited him and the shadiness they employed. After that commitment, he ended up winning more games in one season than Wake ever has and landed another, then another. And between then and this year, it's been a steady flow of 3 and 4 star guys. They got a 5 star guy in this year's class, which is what happens when you are a top 1-2 team for consecutive seasons.
