2022 Atlanta Braves Season Thread: off season decisions loom

Hard not to like what the Braves have done. Acquired just enough talent to have a good shot at winning a terrible NL East, didn't lose much to do it. Not sure how much of this crew we'll keep intact for next year, but drop in Acuna at the top and ditch Joc - that's an elite offensive group potentially. With a healthy starting staff I think they're a couple of relievers away from being World Series level. Way more fun to watch the games now that the back half of the lineup isn't complete garbage.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see Joc back next year under the assumption Ozuna never plays an inning for the Braves again.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Duvall return as well if the DH is added to NL in offseason.

The offseason is going to be a mess because issues like the DH, luxury tax, service time for arbitration and free agency, compensation for losing free agents, among other things, will not be known until a CBA is reached, and a CBA likely won't be reached before Spring Training (at the earliest). Will make it really hard to plan for next season.

The Braves schedule looks WAY more difficult than the Phillies on the way home. Going to dominate the remaining bad teams and come out at least .500 against the likes of the Dodgers, Giants, Padres, & Yankees. Will be a tall task.

The only bummer about scooping up so many OFs is that it means that Pache and Waters still aren't ready.

Didn't realize how soft the Phillies remaining schedule was:

44 games left:

7 against the D'backs
6 against the Marlins
4 against the Rockies (in Philly; the Rockies are horrendous on the road)
4 against the Pirates
3 against the Orioles
3 against the Nats
3 against the Cubs

30 games against teams that are essentially trying to tank. Phillies can play like garbage and still win 20+ of those games.

They have 61 wins now. Hard to see the Phillies not getting to 87 wins with that schedule.

Dodgers are about to sign Shane Greene; Braves released Greene this past weekend.

Didn't realize the Dodgers bullpen was in such dire straits...

Lots of pitching staffs are stretched thin. The season was so much shorter last year; some pitchers are breaking down playing 162 again. Everyone is desperate, the Padres signed Jake Arrieta yesterday. His ERA over the last month was over 10.

Maybe MLB can institute coach pitch or a pitching machine like they do in Little League (first step from t-ball)?

If Tomlin is still on the roster (15 hits, 11 runs last 5 innings) and Smith is still closing, Snit has some explaining to do.

0-2 start against the D'backs in front of a raucous crowd of 7000 in Phoenix. Amazing how much having Hoskins out affects the entire middle of the order ( minus Harper), if in fact that 's the explanation for this inability to string hits together.

Times like these are the perfect example of why it's so easy to love/hate this game.

Braves sign D'Arnaud to a two year extensionm with a club option for a 3rd season. He hasn't had the best season and has been injured, but look at the catchers around baseball; not good. D'Arnaud is better than most.

I've always been a huge Freddie Freeman fan and after watching the E60 on him makes me love him even more! We better get him a contract ASAP!!!

It’s incredible how awful MLB replay is. NBA and NFL aren’t great but they get it right probably 90% of the time. MLB is barely 50/50. 3 massive calls (call at the plate, call at 2nd, and Joc’s HBP/SO that led to ejection) and all 3 go against ATL. MLB desperately wants the Yankees in the playoffs.
