3 Same-sex couples suing to have NC Amendment 1 overturned

Bump for the United Church of Christ challenging Amendment 1 on freedom of religion grounds. Pastors want to marry gay couples and cannot because anyone who performs a marriage ceremony for people without a marriage license (obviously, not possible to get for same-sex couples in NC) commits a misdemeanor.

I'm really glad this is happening, because it shows the bullshit of the "religious liberty" argument against gay marriage. It's inherently antithetical to religious liberty as banning gay marriage is at its core the state defining the parameters of a religious sacrament.

Heard over the weekend that the Indiana GOP quietly dropped an anti-same sex marriage plank from their platform in 2012. Indiana GOP also killed an attempt to get a same-sex marriage ban amendment on the ballot. Has to pass in three consecutive legislative sessions before getting on the ballot. Earliest it could appear on the ballot now is 2017. Indiana Governor Mike Pence will likely test the waters in the 2016 primaries and has stated multiple times he wants a constitutional ban. If the state GOP doesn't want it and he can't get it through the legislature, how does he tell the Tea Party about how effective he'll be as a social conservative leader nationally in the 2016 primaries?

Tillis is running on A 1 as emblematic of his conservative bona fides to try to avoid a runoff in the primary. Put out a new ad recently about it.
