With all due respect, the notion that we can't pay for mental health services for veterans - or the population at large - is a load of bullshit. We're paying for it now already. It's just that we're paying for it via the criminal justice system.
Just so we're clear, I wholly agree with what you're saying here. Your point doesn't conflict with mine. However, it's plainly obvious that what we spend, per soldier, to prepare them for war is exponentially greater than what we spend on taking care of them after the fact. And creating a situation where they need to enter the criminal justice system just to get what they need- and deserve- only furthers the insanity of the situation.
