A law Conservatives, Liberals, Socialists and all could agree on.

Seeing the arrest of Cong. Collins led me to think about a really simple law that everyone (other than Members of Congress) would agree on:

No Member of Congress or their staff shall be allowed to be a member of a private or public company's Board of Directors, Board of Advisors or act as a consultant to any public or private company while serving in Congress, working in a Congressional office or working for a Congressional committee.

Set up extremely stiff penalties for breaking this simple law. The penalties should include losing all monetary and other Congressional pension benefits.

The public would likely vote 95+% in favor of this. Hell, I'd bet that a large majority would think this already illegal.

What do you think?

Socialists would not be up for this.

In.

Would also love to hear catamount’s logic on why socialists wouldn’t be up for it.

Because they want entirely state run businesses, thought it would be obvious.

Were you trying to make a joke?

so the joke/not joke is "there wouldnt be boards to join so supporting it would be irrelevant'?

The government in a socialist economy essentially becomes the board which is opposite of what RJ is proposing.

based on the behavior of the DSA bruhs around here, i actually agree they would probably shed some croc tears over a law like this

Not sure conservatives would be up for this. Aside from the other Congressmen swept up in this investigation all being Republican, it is conservatives who are most likely to tell you that "Government should be run like a business". Being on the board of directors of a business is a qualification to them.

Fine, let them be on ten boards until they are sworn in for Congress.

Socialists definitely believe that being on ten boards is the best qualification for public service. Look at us agreeing!

The government is not a monolithic entity. The proposal was no member of Congress would be permitted to be on the Board of Directors.

I wonder how much of conservatives' general opposition to socialism is predicated in their own (or Fox News') boogeyman of what socialism is. Seems like a lot flat out don't know what socialism actually is.
