ACC Championship, 1 p.m. (ESPN2)

If Wake loses tomorrow their season is definitely over. If they don't win tomorrow and then at least two more games in pool play, their season is almost certainly over, and if we don't make it to the championship game, our season is probably still over.

omg I get to follow this for the first time ever :wiggle:

Last time for everything.

Big Ten baseball is a turdfest, so we should be able to sleepwalk our way into the conference tournament every year (Omaha this year, Target Field next year!) but its double elimination. The ACC's format is much better IMO and obviously the ACC has better programs, although this year was a bit of a down year. Who knows how it'll end up playing out especially with recruiting, but baseball and men's lacrosse are definitely taking the biggest hits as far as conference competition.

It's almost certain that the ACCT is going to a double elimination format next year, they announced that it would be double elimination this year before going Malaysia Airlines flight about the format for nearly eight months.

Yeah the ACC really just beat up on each other this year, and to be honest just has a ton of mediocre teams. I really just meant y'alls last ACC baseball tournament.

yeah I knew what you meant. It's been an eventful spring.

3-1 without a trip to the finals might be good enough. Not sure what our RPI would be.

I'm not sure. We went 2-1 against UVA and increased 26 spots. UVA is of course the number one RPI team though.

Our games (if we win tomorrow of course) will be against:

39th Georgia Tech
11th Miami
78th Duke
51st Clemson

If we beat GT, Miami, and Clemson while losing to Duke we'll probably be up to around 45 or 50, which should be close. We would be 33-26 with a total of 18 conference wins.

We've played a tough schedule, and are 8-8 against top 50 teams in the RPI. If Wake had just gone 6-1 against teams worse than 200th in the RPI, rather than 4-3, we'd likely be in the tournament.

Fischer getting the start tomorrow.

The first time they played this year, Fischer threw a complete game giving up eleven hits and two runs in a 9-2 Wake win.

Fischer is pitching on 3 days rest, after throwing 116 pitches on Friday. Would guess that he has never previously started with such little rest.

Need to win it all to get in. Very undistinquished ACC record and overall record.

30+ wins and a .500 ACC record normally gets teams in, our problem is we lost a handful of OOC games. I believe there have only been one or two teams to go at least .500 in the ACC and not get in since 2006 or 2007 and Wake is one of them (two years ago).

The problem really isn't anything you note, it's that the ACC isn't as good as it normally is and the aforementioned loss of OOC games.

Assuming one Miami, UVA or FSU wins the ACC tourney how many bids does the ACC get?

Will Duke and UNC get at-large bids if they do nothing special in the ACC tourney?

Just going off RPI, it looks like Maryland, UNC and GT could very well dance

ACC teams in from Perfect Game's most recent projections (before this weekend's games):

Virginia (lost two of three against Wake)
Florida State (took two of three from Duke)
Clemson (took two of three from BC)
UNC (lost two of three against Miami)
Georgia Tech (took two of three from South Florida)
Maryland (didn't play)
Miami (took two of three from UNC)

I think almost all these teams are locked except if UNC loses to N.C. State. GT and Clemson just need to avoid getting swept. GT might be better served by losing to Wake to avoid having to play three more games, but they're not just going to roll over on those grounds.

Duke has no shot unless they make the finals IMO. Wake has a better RPI than Duke by 9 spots.
