Alabama takes interesting approach to marrige

A big issue in all of this is taxes and benefits.

Every year I run the numbers on what my fiancée and I would pay/(owe) if we were married versus living together on joint leases with joint checking accounts and both named as beneficiaries of any life insurance/retirement accounts.

It's about a $6,000 swing each year.
