Clearly UL exposed our OL and offense’s inability to handle heavy pressure, but another surprising issue that also contributed to our losses is our O was very slow to get going in all of the key games except fsu. Went down 14-0 to Clemson and nothing first couple of possessions, again down 13-0 to UL with out of sync O to come back to take lead at half before the 3q debacle, again nothing first 3 possessions vs Pack, and of course again go down 14-0 vs UNC with empty first 2 possessions. With a 6th year Sam and so much experience in what had been such an effective O you would think it should be the exact opposite and we come out with confidence and clicking and be even a better O this year but not so. i think some is sam is incredibly streaky but also your coaches should have team prepared to execute with results. Instead we regularly dug ourselves holes and our D also often started slow and regularly gave up scores before finally tightening up later.

At end of day I do feel our D is better than last year and we got that needed bump for success we were hoping for, but our O was no where near as productive as last year and the UL game further impacted our Os confidence and O vastly underperformed in the big games except for CU 2nd half. Really frustrating as fan as seems we had the tools and just not Prepared and able to adjust.

It’s not just the O. The D settled down in all of those games too but allowed teams to score quickly. FSU did the same.

The defense improved, but the offensive regression nullified that. Even with a better defense and improved receiving group we are still a worse team playing a more difficult schedule

Slow-mesh is dead. Granted, Clawson was able to perfect it for a short period, while other programs around the country tried to replicate it. However, they failed to have similar results. Teams have figured out, just rush the line as hard & fast as possible. It limits the time Sam and company have in the backfield.

I’m not convinced that it’s dead. It’s the decision making. Multiple times just yesterday the ball should have clearly been handed off for a decent gain but Sam is always shooting for the 30 yard pass. Not to mention the issues with not throwing the ball away. If you throw the ball OOB then sacks and INT’s become much less of a problem.

Yes. Sam is not very good running the offense. He really isn’t.

He is a very good pocket passer when he can see over the line, and make progressions.

sam made some bad plays last night but he also made some great ones, this loss is on the coaches. They are. not putting Sam in the best position to win with the play calling.

Not really Sam’s fault. Numbers don’t lie and he’s been incredible at Wake. But at some point you can only take so much of hitting the turf on your back, and just say f-it, and throw the ball into a low percentage area.
