Apparently Two Women Getting Pregnant Bankrupted AOL

If they were so worried about the medical costs associated with child birth, they should just hire homosexuals. Because you can't get pregnant with a tongue in your coochie or a penis in your rectum.

Tim Armstrong obviously behaved idiotically. Nonetheless incidents like this do point out how stupid our system is, with or without Obamacare. Why do we require employers to bear (i.e., insure over) the risk that one of their employees will have a catastrophic pregnancy or super expensive cancer or rare disease? CHDeac can chime in but I am betting that AOL really did see a marked increase in their premiums if they had two million + claims in a year. Also a lot of big companies self-insure to a certain extent so those claims may have come partially out of the bottom line.

Don't need to sympathize with Armstrong or AOL in general to see how crazy the system is.
 
It's an example of why we need a universal health care system. Employers should not have to be responsible for care.

Even employers that self-insure generally have some sort of catastrophic group insurance for situations like this.
