I have been trying to brainstorm ideas for electronics for a lake house being built and need suggestions on what would be better to add in now prior to finishing construction. Speakers (indoor and outdoor) obviously come to mind so they can be easily wired and found throughout the house. What else would be ideal? Also, any other home amenities that are easier to install while home is being built. Family is big on sports/movies.

Docking station for iPod to play music everywhere?

Get the local home electronics install guy to come out. They do it everyday and can tell you different things that people do and what might be worth getting. They'll think of something you likely wouldn't.

Cat6 cable. It can be used for phone(not that anyone has that anymore), networking, video, home automation, etc. That said, you don't sound like someone looking for a particularly "wired up" house, but getting speakers where you want them and running speaker wires for a 7+1 surround sound setup in your main TV/media room is probably a good idea. The other things, if you ever decide you need/want them, are possible to implement wirelessly.
