BBall Recruiting Thread 2k19 - Charles Coleman de-commits to Wake. :(

Mark Smith shot 33.7% from the field.

Whatever happened to the recruit that Ayo's family hates?

Edit: See that he ended up at Iowa State

Got bored today. It happens a lot. Went back and looked at all of the grad transfers we discussed last year (and Blogger So Dear wrote up). Was curious if any of them did well since Mark Alstork shit the bed at Illinois and Terrence Thompson has been forgettable at Wake.

Jack Whitman - 6'9" - William & Mary - Was most everyone's #1 choice... He went to Kansas and quit before the season started. At the time, it was assumed by most that he'd turn up somewhere else. Well, he didn't. Still a complete mystery.

Mark Alstork - 6'4" - Ball State / Wright State - High volume scorer who had shot 38.7% from 3 and averaged 19ppg his Junior year. TONS of interest from a myriad of schools. He ended up going to Illinois and he sucked out loud. 22.6 mpg (so not buried on the bench) - 5.8ppg on 33.5%/24.1%/76.4% splits. That's right, he shot less than 25% from 3... 19/79 after going 70/181 the previous season.

Chris Sengfelder
- 6'7" - Fordham - Went to Boise State and played 28.1mpg. 11.3ppg / 6.3rpg. Pretty solid.

Mark Donnal - 6'9" - Michigan - Went to Clemson and has played 13.0mpg. 4.1ppg / 1.8rpg. A whole lot of meh. Wouldn't have helped us.

Khris Lane - 6'6" - Longwood - Went to VCU. 14.9mpg. 7.1ppg / 3.8rpg. Not bad. Not great.

Bryan Alberts -6'5" - Gonzaga - Went to Long Beach State and has played 28.6mpg... 11.6ppg and shooting 3s at a 37.5% clip. No idea if he can play defense, but his stats look a lot like Wilbekin's... Way more 3s than 2s and not much else.

MiKyle McIntosh
- 6'7" - Illinois State - Went to Oregon and has done very well. 27.6mpg... 11.1ppg / 6.2rpg. He's even hit 3s at a decent clip (29-81).

McIntosh would have helped us immensely this year given the hole at the 4. Much better than Terrance Thompson ended up being this season. Of course, Dinos would have been better than either of them. I guess my takeaway from all of this is that our grad transfer targets from last spring/summer kind of sucked... Wonder if there is anyone out there that could help for 2018?

Most grad transfers are available for a reason. Usually it is that there is a hole in their game and/or they lack something in athletic ability like lateral quickness or jumping. Sometimes they have enough skill in an area or two to be useful.

Right. If they were that good, they'd go pro after being in college for 4 years.

Sometimes it is a guy that was overlooked as a recruit, excelled at a lower level, and decides he wants play his last year at the highest level. Kind of like Arians. Or McIntosh.

Arians has a great ability to make threes. A very useful skill. He lacks lateral quickness.
