From the list I'll take Unknown Pleasures but Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' Damn the Torpedoes was THE best album of 1979! Another great one not mentioned is The Cars - Candy-O. Oh, and Fleetwood Mac's Tusk.

79 was big for the beginning of 2 Tone Ska. The Specials first self-titled album and Madness' first album, One Step Beyond, came out that year.

pos rep!

I came here with Damn the torpedoes in mind. Hard to argue with Candy-O and Tusk. I voted for Off the Wall.

Going to commence listening to as many of these as I can before Radiohead at 11.

I'm gonna write in Christopher Cross here.

Also Billy Joel had a great album come out in 1979

The hipsters will laugh about your inclusion of Christopher Cross but I like it. Everyone knew someone who had a copy of that album. I went with The Clash but my favorite album from that year is probably Discovery by ELO.
So many awesome songs. How is that band not in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame?

How about "Singles Going Steady" by the Buzzcocks?

I was at a party around 1980 when one of the girls played Christopher Cross' album one too many times. The guy's apartment was a few levels up and he had a patio. He promptly took his album off the turntable, walked to the patio over a park, and frisbeed that motherfucker about 100 feet away to the cheers of many of us. Of course, we retrieved it the next morning so "Sailing" could live another day.

This week on SiriusXM on the 1970's channel on the Kasey Casem countdown it is this week in 1979. It brought back quite a few memories as this reminds me of listening to the radio on the way to see the Deacs on their memorable run to the Tangerine Bowl.

I would have voted for "Regatta de Blanc" from The Police had it been an option.

Nice. The Knack with two songs in the Top 40 at the same time. This might be favorite song in that list.

I love "Cruel to be Kind"

Awesome countdown and I think a week or two later the Eagles debuted at 15 with Heartache Tonight from "The Long Run", another solid album that year...

In Through the Out Door, amazing album. Zeppelin lives, they need to have a reunion tour and get Dave Grohl on the drums.

Good poll.

A best movie of 1994 poll would probably elicit some similar thoughts.
