Was there ever any talk of Bob Gates running for President? Seems like a really sharp, competent guy who would carry the center and govern in a pragmatic way. GOP base would never forgive him for working for Obama, but, as loopy as the GOP has become, there are still sharp pragmatists (Gates, Colin Powell, Mitch Daniels, Rob Portman, Susan Collins, and Huntsman) left in the party.

This is the type guy that needs to be running right now for President. I would vote for him in a nano second.
