I wonder if WakeBored is really upset by Twitter suspending Chuck Modi.
what does JH think "investigation" means?
it is getting pretty difficult to converse with the Trumpublicans, they have created an alternate, largely false, "reality" for themselves, which they then try to impose on everyone else
the common interest demands that the woke fail, no one has a monopoly on the truth, especially not the woke
only a mistaken woke person could "think" that the non-woke are all Trump supporters
I haven’t followed this thread but “mean woke” is one of the more goddamn lame whines I’ve heard on here. Get some pride.
Chloe Baker, the rising senior at Wake Forest who started the petition, said the university is correct to want to rename the building but it should pick another name.
“As a student of color at Wake, I am not looking for a reminder of the day people that looked like my family and me were bought and sold in such an inhumane and disgusting manner,” Baker wrote in the petition posted at change.org.
“By deciding to name the Hall after the date Wingate allowed the sale to take place, administration is memorializing the exact reason they decided to take his name down in the first place. The administration is putting up a constant reminder of racial trauma for black Wake Forest students as if being black at Wake Forest isn’t already hard enough.”
The best thing about the name is that it prompts discussion and education about the history associated with the school. I don’t feel very strongly about the name itself, one way or the other, but I think in some ways it’s already serving it’s purpose.
Is it more important for social progress to make the majority uncomfortable or to make the minority comfortable?
I’m honestly not sure. The name is a bold move that will make different people upset for different reasons. And yet that doesn’t mean it should be changed.
Isn’t the argurment that it makes minorities feel uncomfortable?
