Let’s be clear - there’s no excusing corruption, but we often fail to acknowledge in these foreign government turnovers that both sides are likely corrupt, and they are dealing with the same bitter partisan culture war bullshit that we are here in America. For the most part, whichever foreign political party is most friendly to US trade policy is going to receive biased media coverage here in the states, no matter how unpopular that political party is in their country.
Most of these foreign nations don’t have a historically established dominating middle class of college educated neoliberals, and it’s pure propaganda for the American media to constantly portray foreign political turmoil as reasonable vs unreasonable, Democracy vs fascism, Congress vs Dictator. That simple binary of good vs bad is just the media dishonestly trying to sell you one side of a story.
