WF Athletics, a.k.a. Ron Wellman and Randy Casstevens...yes, THAT Randy Casstevens...has opted to not renew the contract of Catered Affairs (a locally owned and operated company) to operate the Deacon Tower Grille and provide the catering for Deacon Tower and Bridger Field House events and Wake Forest football games. Beginning August 1st, Ovations Food Services (a national institutional food service company) will take over.
WF Athletics wants to bill itself as "the Triad's team," but apparently that means that they want the support from the Triad, but not to support the Triad...unless, of course, you're big business and have the revenue to slap your name on a building, a field, etc... Then, by all means...
Catered Affairs built a large and loyal clientele of WF and non-WF supporters, and their restaurant and catering menus and services have drawn many first-timers to Deacon Tower as well as much repeat business. The relationships that the Catered Affairs staff each built with customers, suite owners, and WF supporters and the trust that these groups had in them was outstanding. And it won't be the same without them at the restaurant and on game days. They served and represented the University well for five years, and this is how they're repaid for their dedication and service.
Thank you to the Welker's and their staff for all that they did to make the Deacon Tower Grille one of the most popular dining establishments in the area. Sure the view from the restaurant is unique, but it was the food and the customer service that kept people coming back...plain and simple. WF couldn't have asked for a better group to launch the Deacon Tower Grille, service the many suites, and Bridger Field house on game days. The reputation that they leave behind will be difficult to surpass. And even if Ovations was to surpass it, if someone else under bids them in five years, they'll be out the door too!
