Yeah, that is total bullcrap. Hopefully they won't do it. If your players are more likely to be injured because they are tired, then get them in better shape, or put in smaller players.

I can see the fast offenses just standing in the huddle, close to the line, until 13-12 seconds then break, line up and snap right at 9 or so. They'll devise ways to keep defenses guessing. Take away the quick snap, okay- we'll make it a clusterfuck.

Odd that the offense would get a delay of game penalty for snapping the ball too quickly.

Tweet from one of our own...

@CoachPoeWins: Slowing offenses is like saying teams can't run the triple option, because it's too hard to figure out who has the ball. @footballscoop

Nothing will be changed. Nick Saban could care less about this with the quality of players he's getting. The committee that came up with this idea consists of no coaches or officials from a school from any of the 4 major football conferences or the SEC.

"No-huddle critics Saban, Bielema attended meeting that produced controversial proposal to slow down offenses."

This really won't change the pace of play too much - the ball is rarely snapped before 30 on the play clock even by fast offenses.

In the past defenses would get trapped with the same personnel because the fast offenses could always have the threat of snapping it at 33 or 34 (even though they rarely do) to get a free penalty if the defense subbed.

The rule change won't really impact the pace of the game from a fans perspective. It comes down to if you think the defense should be allowed to substitute after each play or if the offense should be able to strategically trap the defense in the same personnel. That's a debate where I can see both sides.

Great suggestion by this "select" committee. Let's give the refs more to keep up with since they handle all the other stuff so well.

The thing that bothers me is that a recommendation is made without much discussion with coaches.
