Agree - thundercunt sounds like legit angry. Or like maybe the person being called that is being an angry elf. Twatwaffle is more loving.
 
Let's put it this way - TC is something you yell at someone that cuts you off in traffic. TW is something you call a friend that accidentally steps on your foot.
