Chicago Cubs Thread - Playoff Push Pending

And Alzolay blows another lead. Up 1-0, gives up an infield single, stolen base, then throws a 2-2 slider that doesn't slide. 85 middle middle. Then gives up another stolen base to their catcher because he doesn't check on him. Dude had a running start from 1st. Then another single on a middle middle pitch. Just don't understand why he is getting these high leverage spots. This division is going to come down to a few games here or there, and we are giving a divisional opponent games. He also blows Wesneski's brilliant day.

He needs to be on the 1st plane to Daytona. And let him work his way back from low A. Hes cost the Cubs 5-6 games already this year.
I think he officially has 4 L's. That is unreal for a reliever 30 games into the season.

Five of the Cubs 14 losses are due to Alzolay. Adbert left the game with the score tied twice, one resulting in a win and another in a loss. When the boo birds can be heard at Wrigley Field and are directed at a Cub, that player has been horrible on a consistent basis.

Counsell might find this situation a puzzle. The Brewers have had at least one, if not two, top shelf closers during his years in Milwaukee. This may be a problem he has seldom experienced. Neris has been effective but was on the shelf today. He doesn't appear to be the long term answer.

Full Pack on full display in the ninth to secure the win. Taillon with 6 shutout innings and Wisdom provides the winning RBI's. Counsell might just keep Wisdom at DH. His shortcomings are known but he's been good for a homer every 15 AB's for 3+ years.

Mervis to Iowa and Mastrobuoni returns to Chicago.

Good to see Steele return in good form. Thompson gets to return to Iowa after two poor appearances.

Cubs starters have done the job. The bullpen has three consistent arms and everyone else is a question mark.

The team has played well considering the injuries. Bellinger and Suzuki should return within the next ten days. Hendricks and Witt are close as well.

Thanks Pilch.

Canario to Iowa to make room for Bellinger. Belli will DH tonight. PCA sticks in Chicago. His defense, speed and better contact have shown well.

Palencia to the IL due to right shoulder stiffness. Thompson makes the quick return to replace him.

Radar looks clear after the next 30 minutes or so, but there is still a Tornado Watch in effect for Cook County until 8PM

Busch with the walkoff HR as the heavy rain starts after a great Happ catch. Good win.

Alzolay getting a second opinion on his forearm - speculation is that he may need Tommy John

Hendricks to the bullpen had to happen. Unlike most of his career, Kyle has been effective the first time thru the line up this year and miserable thereafter. It's the opposite of his career stats. Long relief is likely his role. He has the experience to thrive in leveraged role but does he have the stuff?

It was good to see the first team infield and outfield on the diamond together. It hasn't happened since Suzuki went on the IL on April 14.

PCA to Iowa was a bit of a surprise. I get the desire to play him everyday, but he looked ready to me. His defense and speed on the bases and on D make him a legit contributor on the bench. Those skills can change a ballgame. The bat improved and showed up in the clutch as well. He starts in CF against RHP for a lot of teams. If Busch falters at first, don't be surpised to see Bellinger replace him and PCA start in CF.

The bullpen has improved from nightmare to bad dreams over the past two weeks. Cuas, Miller, Little, Leiter, Neris, Brown and Wesneski provide hope.

I think the PCA move was to bring up Vazquez. I don’t think they are fully confident in the health of Swanson and Hoerner so needed another infielder

I wouldn’t mind seeing PCA get some time in left and sit Happ and hope it works like sitting did for Suzuki’s bat. Happ is striking out at an alarming rate. Busch too actually.
