Treasury's financial intel unit to turn over financial records to Senate for Trump-Russia probe

President Donald Trump
A financial intelligence unit within the Treasury Department has agreed in principle to turn over financial records related to President Donald Trump and associates, NBC News confirmed Friday, citing a person close to the Senate Intelligence Committee.

The committee's bipartisan investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election is also looking into whether there was collusion between Moscow and the Trump campaign.

CNBC and NBC News first reported on Wednesday that the committee requested the documents from the Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. A committee aide said the evidence could include possible money laundering and to what extent, if at all, people close to Vladimir Putin have invested in Trump's real estate empire.

In response to that report, White House spokesman Michael Short said the president is confident the investigation will exonerate his campaign.

"There's a process, and that process is moving forward, and we're confident that once it's complete everyone will again see that there is no 'there,' there when it comes to alleged collusion."

The White House and FinCEN did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for further comment.

The Wall Street Journal first reported FinCEN's intention to share the records.

"There is no 'there', there"

is this the new "depends what your definition of is is?"

Glad things are being looked in to.

I'm just waiting for all the facts to come out.

Think this is pretty major, but not for why you might expect. My Theory of Everything now is basically that Donald J. Trump had no part in any collusion with Russia to meddle in the 2016 election. Russia didn't need him. They developed enough assets around him and he's easily influenced. I think there were Russian actors in his campaign. Carter Page, Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn, Roger Stone all likely candidates... all under investigation right now. But why does DJT act guilty as hell? Won't release his business or personal taxes, firing FBI head, certifying letters that are basically non-denial denials.

Aside from the fact that he's still being influenced by at least one of these dudes, he's acting guilty because he is guilty but nothing to do with Russia meddling in the election. His business dealings are sketchy as fuck. They're sketchy because he's a sketchy businessman, his family is sketchy, just not for treasonous reasons. Just this week Jared Kushner and sister were caught trying to sell visas for investment and had to scrap it after being caught. They don't do due diligence and have engaged in highly risky behavior for years. They literally worked in the shadiest areas: casinos, NY and Miami real estate, and with Russian oligarchs. Looking at their finances under scrutiny could open up a wide host of problems having nothing to do with the 2016 election. All their employees at Trump Org. have NDAs but all these investigations have subpoena power to negate them.

This might be the first domino that they desperately wanted avoid. Trump was afraid of the Russia investigation because he knows Trump Org. will not withstand scrutiny. Even if he's ultimately insulated, his family and his company could be fucked.

way too many conclusions you just jumped through, Couchy

I think another theory for why he's acting so guilty is because he knows it delegitimizes him if even one member of his campaign or inner circle goes down for this.

Let's discuss it then. Why do you think shit isn't coming?

Because Russia is the equivalent of "Obama is from Kenya!!" But instead of just one big news source pushing it (FOX) you have all but one major media outlet pushing it due to their political leanings. And I think liberals are once again deluding themselves into thinking if they push something hard enough the rest of the country will get in line and believe it. Just like when they convinced themselves Hillary would have a blowout win. In short, the reason I don't think "shit is coming" is because the shit that is being alleged is absurd bullshit.

You can't possibly be this blindly partisan.

Only moronic racists gave the Obama BS even a passing thought. However, many people who were very close to Trump made a total of tens of millions of dollars directly from Russian government entities and surrogates. Trump, himself, made over $50,000,000 from a close friend of Putin and that friend followed Trump to many campaign events. These are facts that have paper trails and aren't in dispute.

It's mind-boggling that anyone could try to equate the two.

Man, you're going to be crushed.

The guy you're defending is the guy who pushed the "Obama is from Kenya!!!!" bullshit. Yet you are ignoring mountains of evidence that he's a very shady character capable of such absurdity.

I don't even think most liberals *really* believe it. Just hope to throw enough shit on the wall to remove Trump, which is bizarre because Pence would be so much worse for them. I heard an interview with the TMZ guy who made what I thought was a really interesting point, it's bizarre how liberals have adopted a tone of "if you even meet with trump you're a bad person" and outright war against him when the dude is so clearly willing to change his mind on a dime. As opposed to a guy like Pence, or Obama, who have their principles and they're never going to change their mind. It seems to me they could easily get a lot of what they want. Trump clearly has very little hardline societal beliefs that guide him.

Yes he's clearly an outrageous character. Which i would assume is why liberals and their media think they can throw this bullshit and it stick

Trump sees meetings as an endorsement. And he's clearing willing to lie about what happened in the meeting. Which puts the other people in the position of calling the President a liar.

Pence is awful, but at least you know exactly what you're getting. And I'm not convinced Pence isn't in on all this. If he isn't, he's as big a rube as the people who voted for him are.

Or maybe people care about their country and don't want a repressive, murdering dictator helping to decide American elections and owning a POTUS ans many of his closest allies. Trump is still saying what happened to Flynn was unfair. There is direct evidence against many of Trump's senior allies, but that doesn't matter to tintin.

You can't believe that, although, maybe you can.

"“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

Wholeheartedly. and why the hell wouldn't I? At the end of the day after all the insinuations and "connect the dots" media, this is what we have:

James Clapper, who served as director of national intelligence during the Obama administration, stood by past assertions that he had no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. Asked by Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., whether that assessment is still accurate, Clapper said: “It is.”

Clapper admitted he also was not initially aware of the FBI’s counterintelligence probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. But he said if there was any evidence of collusion, it “didn’t reach the evidentiary bar” needed for an intelligence assessment issued earlier this year. Clapper, further, reiterated that his team could not corroborate the contents of an infamous anti-Trump dossier that was shared with officials earlier this year.
