Creating a Political Action Committee

Hey Tunnel Diggers!

I rarely venture over here, because I rarely delve into state/federal politics, but I have a question that I think would best be asked here. Does anyone have any experience starting up a PAC, specifically on the local (county) level? Obviously they're highly regulated and have to be registered on the state level. Anyone have any past experiences or pointers they can give? On average, how much $$ will need to be raised initially, and how much will be needed to sustain pressure on a local level?

The NC Academy of Pediatric Dentistry discussed doing this on the state level and the expense and regulation was to onerous. We have about 180 members. I was on the periphery while this was going on so I only remember the generalities.
