Re: Good twitter follows
JR Smith is now an undergraduate at NC A&T, is trying out as a walk-on for the golf team and tweets daily about homework and how hard school is. I find really entertaining,

If A&T is too hard, he should have gone to UNC-CH as planned and learned from Julius Nyang'oro.

I used to be really good at math at school but yeah, I wonder how far I’d have to go back curriculum-wise to restart and catch up to a college level math course like calculus.
Probably 9th grade geometry. Maybe it would only take me a week or two to review but I think I’d be fucked by trig/precalc by not getting those core concepts nailed down again.
Same here. I took Multivariate Calculus in 12th grade but I couldn’t give a good answer when my 4th grader asked what TAN was on his older brother’s calculator.
Hey dorks.

We were trying to model the effect of north / south / east / west facing slopes on gopher tortoise burrow use in the winter and we had to dig into middle school trigonometry to transform the compass direction data. A burrow facing 355 degrees should have nearly the same effect as a burrow facing 5 degrees, but that circularity really screws up a logistic response model, but transforming the data using SIN or COS maybe could have fixed it. It got too confusing to interpret the regression coefficients though, so I just had my student convert it into a categorical variable. #TalkinTrig
