Although to a lesser extent, the fan base's upheaval over Coach Bz reminds me a lot about UT's disgust with Dooley. I am not a UT fan, but I live in Nashville and listen to sports talk daily. Last season, everyone--fans, locals, radio personalities--were all sick of it and ready to go...Dooley was in his third year. He also had the "inheriting a touch situation 3 years ago" excuse, but three years is plenty--especially basketball rather than football--to turn things around. UT felt unrest within the fan base, saw the abysmal results, and made a quick, efficient decision. Tenn showed how to make a difficult decision, WFU is an example of what not to do.

"KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart has no doubt that Derek Dooley improved the Volunteers' football program after inheriting a tough situation three years ago.

But that improvement didn't show up in Tennessee's record, so Dooley no longer is the Vols' coach.

Dooley was fired Sunday after posting Tennessee's longest run of consecutive losing seasons in over a century. Dooley owned a 15-21 record that included an 0-15 mark against Top 25 teams. Dooley was 4-19 in Southeastern Conference competition and had lost 14 of his past 15 league games.

"This is a result-based profession," Hart said. "You cannot ignore the results at the end of the day." "

Ha! Bzz is better!

Difference is, UT has an AD that cares about winning, we've got one that seems to only care about keeping our nose nice and clean.

True. Wake's biggest problem is that they don't really care about winning. Winning games is a luxury, something to wish for when all other requirements are met.

Until this changes, Wake will always be the parasite program it's been virtually its entire ACC existence.

Pretty good comparison, but Dave Hart became AD in Sept. 2011. He wasn't tied to Dooley like Wellman is to Bz.

The tagger is correct. Dooley was young when Tennessee hired him. It's easier to excuse taking a chance on a perceived up and comer that doesn't pan out. Bzz had a well established record of shity-ness to mediocrity when Wellman took peyote and hired him.

Tennessee was also in legitimate trouble when Dooley was hired. He was not remotely close to their first choice.

Oh, and he was only a year removed from a winning season..unlike Buzzy.

It seemed the UT people already had a prejudice, to whatever degree, because of Dooley's last name. He had to overcome that too (and not because of Uncle Bill).

That is the difference. UT is a school that cares about winning. Wake has gotten to be a school where the AD cares about how they put their socks on & tie their shoes. We were winning in basketball & football previously but he went out & fired the 2 time bball winning coach in Dave Odom. Then a few years later fired the 3 time winning baseball coach in Geroge Greer & Greer was after only 1 losing season [but 600 wins]. So it is all about RW's ego & him being right, which he rarely is.
