Don't go to law school (aka Moonz porn)

I don't mind it. It pays the bills, has a lot of variety, and is a helluva lot better than the shitty job I had for several years in between college and law school. Plus, if I yell at someone and threaten to sue them unless they do what I want, they often listen.

Moonz is right (I need a shower now) the number of applicants is dropping disproportionately in the upper tiers of applicants. The smart kids are staying away.

If you get into a top 10 law school - go. you will make 180k+ out of law school

I go to a non T-14 school but graduated from Wake with no debt and am taking on no debt to go to law school. I know I want to be a lawyer and I go to a school where most do not go into big law firms, but rather go into public interest and the public sector in general. I don't know exactly what I want to do specifically but will most likely end up working for the government in some capacity. Still have some time to figure it out of course, but I know that I want to be in law school and I enjoy 95% of the stuff I read and talk about in class. Only downside is that the public interest side of the school I go to brings out some loons. I mean there are people here who make socialism look like a moderate viewpoint and want white people to make payments to minorities for past wrongs. Literally, some of these people want white people to pay into a fund that is then dispersed to lower income minorities.

I can't see rationalizing this unless you're absolutely convinced you want to do this shit AND you go T14. Just seems like too high of a likelihood of misery and financial headaches otherwise. Plus you're surrounded by assholes for law school.

I have too many friends who just said "Fuck it I'll go to law school," and they're all dicked right now. One who ended up at Michigan and now has a pretty great job still has the caveat of spending 20+ hrs/day surrounded by people who have a stick up their ass. I suppose if you can block that kind of thing out/don't realize you're a pain in the ass like the rest of the office, then things will be pretty tolerable.

T14, not Top 10 dumbass. You're about to get sued by the alumni of four Top Tier law schools.

aka "My parents are going to bankroll me until I decide it is time to join the real world so law school it is"

:werd: I'm sure I will get a terrible ROI for the extra three years, basically just pissing away money.

If I didn't have a lot of scholarship money I wouldn't have gone to law school.

Also I'm not really sure what you're getting at with your posts here. I thought the point of the article was to say that law school is a bad investment if you're going to take out debt to do it. I'm not taking out any debt to do it so it's not a bad investment for me personally. So I'm not really sure what the point is.

Accounting cost is not opportunity cost and opportunity cost is what matters

You're missing part of the article as well. Aside from the last point about making money all of the other reasons have nothing at all to do with debt.

I have a JD and masters in bioethics. I worked as a lawyer for a little bit but was not a big fan of it. Also worked (before or after law school) as an office manager, customer development manager, NCAA compliance advisor, and healthcare systems analyst - some of which were good and some not but they all have helped me find something I love doing. Now doing bioethical consulting for a healthcare system that I would not have gotten without my law degree so I'm grateful for it.

Law school is not for everyone, and jobs in any profession are not guaranteed. I really did not care what others said and I did what I felt was best for me. If you truly feel practicing law or going to law school is for you, then do it but understand what you're committing to.

Right and I addressed the other parts of the article where I said "I want to be a lawyer" and further clarified that I was fine with the commitment and actually enjoy sitting in class and reading the material.

Translation: your foolish parents have enough money to burn to assuage their guilt for you growing up a face painting loser. And let there be no doubt, you are the most pathetic person on the planet.
