Menendez is a criminal. Around 2008 when he was running for re-relection there was a recording that was widely played of a Melendez aid directly threatening someone over some union business and contributions or something like that. The aid point blank said if the contribution wasn't made then Menendez would make sure the guy never got another government contract.

He still got re-elected. By a pretty wide margin.
