I'm not looking for a whole song whose lyrics you like. Just post a particular lyric or a couple lyrics that you like for whatever reason.

I'm listening to Wanted Man by Avett Brothers and I love the lyrics: "Bullet in my shoulder, blood running down my vest, 20 in the posse, and they're never gonna let me rest." Look this song up. It's on Live Vol. 2.

"Three ways was the morning/Three lovers, in three ways/We knew when she landed/Three days she'd stay." Classic.

Baby this town rips the bones from your back
Its a death trap, it's a suicide rap
We gotta get out while were young
`cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run

The Boss

You may tire of me,
as our December sun is setting
cause I'm not who I used to be
No longer easy on the eyes,
but these wrinkles masterfully disguise
The youthful boy below who turned your way and saw
Something he was not looking for: both a beginning and an end
But now he lives inside someone he does not recognize
When he catches his reflection on accident

The other day I found myself up on the corner
I thought I run into a friend of mine
Ended up that he was just a stranger
I said hello as he passed me by

But then he turned and put a gun to my head
He said, My friend I'm going to rob you blind
I said You must be down on your luck
I'm out of money and I'm all out of time

He pulled the trigger and I fell to my knees
My spirit left and then my body went cold
I'm looking down upon the lights of the city
I feel alive, but I'm dead and gone

I'm so overdosed on apathy and burnt out on sympathy.

Less Than Jake, "The Science of Selling Yourself Short"

Now I don't know, but I been told it's hard to run with the weight of gold
Other hand I have heard it said, it's just as hard with the weight of lead.

Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia

A life lesson in those two lines.

Well, I was drunk the day my Mom got outta prison.
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But, before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got runned over by a damned old train.

I really want to post this whole song, but that would not be following the rules

They left the lawman lyin' and they made their getaway
They got back to the motel just before the break of day
Sonny gave her all the money and he blew her a little kiss
If they ask you how this happened say I forced you into this
She watched him as his taillights disappeared around the bend
The road goes on forever and the party never ends

Its Main Street after midnight just like it was before
21 months later at the local grocery store
Sherry buys a paper and a cold 6-pack of beer
The headlines read that Sonny is goin' to the chair
She pulls back onto Main Street in her new Mercedes Benz
The road goes on forever and the party never ends

behind blue eyes

When my fist clenches, crack it open
Before I use it and lose my cool
When I smile, tell me some bad news
Before I laugh and act like a fool

If I swallow anything evil
Put your finger down my throat
If I shiver, please give me a blanket
Keep me warm, let me wear your coat

Blitzen Trapper's first album comes as close to channelling Dylan as anyone I heard. The storytelling is amazing.

Black River Killer:

It was just a little while past the sunset strip
They found the girl’s body in an open pit
Her mouth was sewn shut, but her eyes were still wide
Gazing through the fog to the other side

They booked me on a whim and threw me deep in jail
With no bail, sitting silent on a rusty pail
Just gazing at the marks on the opposite wall
Remembering the music of my lover’s call

So you make no mistake
I know just what it takes
To pull a man’s soul back from heaven’s gates
I’ve been wandering in the dark about as long as sin
But they say it’s never too late to start again

Oh when, oh when
Will the spirit come a calling for my soul's sin
Oh when, oh when
Will the keys to the kingdom be mine again?

"Just because you're paranoid don't mean they're not after you."
-Nirvana, Territorial Pissings

"And yesterday I saw you kissing tiny flowers,
But all that lives is born to die.
And so I say to you that nothing really matters,
And all you do is stand and cry."
-Led Zeppelin, That's the Way

"I want to reconcile the violence in your heart
I want to recognise your beauty's not just a mask
I want to exorcise the demons from your past
I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart"
-Muse, Undisclosed Desires

"No one likes us-I don't know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
But all around, even our old friends put us down
Let's drop the big one and see what happens"

i had to move to mexico to get away
you reap the seeds you sow or so they say
i spent most my nights hanging out at a place called the rainbow bar

drinking cervezas all night long singing mexican love songs
getting all the words all wrong and not giving a damn
hoping that my luck might change feeling crazy acting strange
never worrying about the danger i was in

well ive had a might bad run of luck since you left town
sometimes you hit the braked but you cant slow down
i know what i want on my damn tombstone
when they put me in the groun
tell them to write it big and tall or not at all
just put im good now

I appreciate the lyrics to the Talking Heads’ “ Once in a Lifetime” more and more the older I get:

You may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
You may find yourself in another part of the world
You may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
You may find yourself in a beautiful house with a beautiful wife
You may ask yourself, well, how did I get here?
>
>
>
You may ask yourself, what is that beautiful house?
You may ask yourself, where does that highway lead to?
You may ask yourself, am I right, am I wrong?
You may say to yourself, my god, what have I done?

Any Drive-By Truckers song written by Mike Cooley. In particular, Zip City and Marry Me.

Please don't bury me
Down in that cold cold ground
No, I'd druther have "em" cut me up
And pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
And the blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take both of my ears
If they don't mind the size
Give my stomach to Milwaukee
If they run out of beer
Put my socks in a cedar box
Just get "em" out of here
Venus de Milo can have my arms
Look out! I've got your nose
Sell my heart to the junkman
And give my love to Rose

Dropped acid, Blue Oyster Cult concert, fourteen years old,
And I thought them lasers were a spider chasing me.
On my way home, got pulled over in Rogersville Alabama, with a half-ounce of weed and a case of Sterling Big Mouth.
My buddy Gene was driving, he just barely turned sixteen.
