Halliburton vs. BP

It was my understanding that self-regulation was the name of the game in the oil rig biz. The so-called regulation was just lip service to the hippies. Notsomuch the fault of the hippies for poor regulation laws, but moreso for poor oversight. See the Eric Cantor thread for a clue as to how businesses get away with self-regulation among other things. The hippies are just weak enforcers because they want to believe that people actually give a shit about the environment in which they and their kids live, and cannot understand how someone would shit all over their own house to make a few extra bucks. dumbass hippies

U.S. District Court Judge Carl Barbier was not amused. In his ruling Monday, Barbier issued an order and then reminded BP's lawyers that their brief was supposed to be limited to 35 pages, double-spaced:

"BP's counsel filed a brief that, at first blush, appeared just within the 35-page limit. A closer study reveals that BP's counsel abused the page limit by reducing the line spacing to slightly less than double-spaced. As a result, BP exceeded the (already enlarged) page limit by roughly six pages."

"However, the local chambers argue in their brief that—contrary to the national chamber’s brief—BP designed the compensation system; lobbied for district court approval; attested to its adequacy and fairness under oath; and initially defended it before the Fifth Circuit. By reinforcing BP’s version of the facts, the local group said, the national chamber “serves the express interests of a foreign corporation at the expense of a very large number of its affiliates and individual business members.” - See more at: http://www.stuarthsmith.com/the-rev...-of-main-street-america/#sthash.bzgVFcWY.dpuf
