What a non-story. Dude was here illegally and tried to legalize through marriage, which isn't a free pass. You can become eligible for a green card through employment or marriage, but that doesn't mean you get an automatic waiver for your illegal presence. When the process comes to determine actual eligibility for the green card itself (as opposed to just the green card immigrant visa), the first thing they do is tally up your illegal presence and look at your manner of entry. He was right to be nervous and obviously knew more than his husband. Now they're scrambling and putting in a baseless claim for asylum out of desperation. This isn't a Trump thing. This is how it has been for years.
