Is the US an Oligarcy?

Going back to the 2008 election, remember that EVERYONE wanted change in the health care system. It was a huge issue and McCain ran on it just as hard as Obama did.

Good thing that around the same time, Mitt Romney certainly had nothing to do with anything like the ACA.

Sure, but there are a lot more other corporations with billions in profits that have nothing to do with insurance and despise Obamacare.

is this really true? Koch Industries, sure, but seems to me the vast majority of big corps shrugged their shoulders and went about the business of complying with the law. there's grumbling, but I haven't seen any big corps (other than Koch) jump on the REPEAL OBAMACARE!!11!! bandwagon.

I think elites pick their battles. Just to pick an example, the oil and gas industry has kept their powder dry on Obamacare, even if they don't love it, but they will damn sure get their way on Keystone XL (eventually) and fracking and continued subsidies and everything else they want. Or the financial industry. They may not love Obamacare either, but they have bankrolled the hell out of the Democrats and as a direct result, none of them have gone to jail despite willfully cratering the world economy. That is a clear-cut example of elites getting their way despite the overwhelming majority of public opinion being against them.

Publicly, sure, they are not going to make a big stink about it and cloud their image away from neutral. But behind closed doors of those in power Obamacare is basically referred to similar to how Wake fans refer to [Redacted].

No offense, but how many closed doors of those in power are you getting behind?

A handful, and non of the people in question have had anything but extremely negative things to say about Obamacare, so I'm KenPomming that out to a 100% hatred rate by the non-insurance powers that be.

So rich white guys hate Obama? This is real scoop.

No, that's not the scoop. The apparent scoop from the article linked in the OP is that, even though rich white guys hate Obama and apparently control the country, they still let Obama do what he wanted and did not stop him.

No. They controlled what Obama could do so it would be in their interest far more than liberal alternatives.

Bingo, Ph! What we really should have, and what most democrats wanted, was single-payer. The fat cats would never go for that, but settled for the President's plan.

And in response to the opening post, the Supreme Court has recently again favored the position that government is a commodity to be bought and sold.

But that doesn't make sense. If you truly run shit then you don't settle on something you hate this much, you just get rid of it. Think of all the stuff that doesn't get done, and this cluster got done, which they hate more than all of that other stuff. If they truly had the power they are being credited with, there is no way this would have got off the drawing board in any form whatsoever, and most certainly not in its current form.

I think it's funny that you think your rich guys speak for all rich guys.

Rich OWGs are usually pretty similar. And the one thing that seems to unite them all is their hatred of Obama and Obamacare.

The study did say that the masses get their way 18% of the time. So perhaps obamacare is the exception that proves the rule.

Except that the masses didn't want it either. And again, even if they did, if you are in control and throwing the masses a bone every so often to dupe them into thinking they actually matter, this is not the bone you throw them if you hate this bone more than any of the others.

just quickly looking at the study, this is kind of a "they sky is blue and water's wet" deal. It also seemingly tries to draw a ridiculous conclusion. Obviously wealthy organized people are going to wield a lot of power....duh, but an oligarchy that does not make.

I don't understand the argument 2&2 is making, Obama is an elite it's not the elites v. Obama. Almost everyone wanted health care changes, even republicans who just tried to take their ball and go home when they realized they wouldn't be the party implementing it, and the insurance lobby got their changes.

The only people who hate Obamacare with a passion are old white people
