Alright, me and my wife are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary this summer. We want to take a vacation without the kids. Here's what we are looking for:

1) Good outdoor opportunities (particularly snorkeling and hiking)

2) Ease of an all-inclusive format

3) Not terribly difficult to fly into

4) Even with lots to do, still a good places to chill out and relax

Any help would be appreciated!

Does it need to be an island? If not, Costa Rica will give some of the best 'excursion' options. Plus it's relatively cheap to get there compared to, say, Kauai (which is the other immediate thing that comes to mind).

agree with above, sometimes best places aren't always islands. Costa Rica, Belize..Maybe Aruba, St Lucia.

also depends on where you are flying from.

You're absolutely right, it would not have to be an island. Just have a boating/snorkeling opportunities.

I think Costa Rica would be perfect, but we are going in June, and that is apparently the rainy season.

We love turks and Caicos. Amazing snorkeling and diving. Not sure about rainforest type stuff. Very easy trip from east coast.

I've got points 1 & 4 for you, and it's Kauai. I'm headed out there in a few weeks.

The wife and I went to the Canary Islands last year. Not the easiest place to get to, but not difficult either (there are plenty of flights from mainland Europe). We didn't do any snorkeling/diving, but I've heard it's good. There are lots of outdoor opportunities and the climate is unbelievable ... think 75 and sunny every day of the year. If Sarah Palin ever gets elected president, that's where we're moving.

An easier option would be Curacao. It fits your island request, has amazing snorkeling/diving opportunities and has a laid back European vibe. Flights are plentiful and cheap.

Not an exact fit for your list but the island resort town of Boca Grande on Gasparilla Island in Florida is fantastic, great restaurants, fishing, very laid back with an old village layout....not many modern buildings in town. You can rent on the beach or stay at the Gasparilla Inn. Personal favorite of mine and many others. 90 minutes south of Tampa International Airport.

Just google it lots of cool pictures of the old town and activities.

(And no I don't own the townhouse rental listed or know the owner, I just know it's in a good location!)
