Issa closes down hearing rather than letting Co-Chair ask questions

Elections have fucking consequences! Win the god damned congress and your cocksucking liberal friends can control the fucking committees like you did for 200 years. Suck a big egg you left coast lib!

Why not let him ask his questions, and let her claim the fifth to them? It makes it look less like Issa is just being a dick and totally unprofessional. Which he is.

I can hear it already tomorrow. Limbaugh: she pled the 5th to everything the Republicans asked her, and not to the Democrats. What is she hiding?

Townie?

Cummings is showboating as much as Issa is. Issa dragged Lerner up there knowing she'd still plead the 5th and she did. She will continue to do so unless she is granted immunity or is compelled to testify and has said as much. At the point she invokes her 5th amendment right, the proceeding became pointless.

You can't be serious?

The Republican Inspector General testified there was no WH or political influence in this non-event at the IRS.

The self-described lifelong conservative who was in charge of the program stated under oath it was his idea and his idea alone. Oh, yeah, he had keywords for liberal groups just like he had for conservatives.

The IRS non-scandal has been definitively investigated and proven not to have been a scandal. The IG and many others have testified to this under oath and penalty of perjury.

What Issa is doing has wasted millions of taxpayer dollars after everyone knew nothing happened. He give kangaroo courts a bad name.

Then why did he drag her up there if he knew what would happen, and that it would be pointless? Cummings is in no way showboating as much as Issa. Issa is an egomaniacal, hypocritical asshole who will one day need to invoke the fifth amendment himself.

He had to give her the opportunity to testify even if he knows she'll take the fifth. What was Cummings question? When he gets the floor, he doesn't ask it but starts reading his prepared notes. That's showboating. Issa lacked tact though.

So what changed with Lerner that Issa recalled her yesterday? If she's already invoked the fifth, what made Issa think she wouldn't continue to do so? Reminds me of the 40+ House votes on repealing Obamacare-why waste everyone's time if the outcome is already known?

They claim that she forfeited that right the last time they called her because she said something before invoking the fifth. Issa went on Fox News on Sunday claiming that he has struck a deal with Lerner's attorney so that she would testify on Wednesday. These negotiations never happened.

Is that why he went on for 6 minutes?

He was told she wouldn't testify. It is SOP in EVERY committee to allow the Ranking Member the ability to ask questions and/or make a statement. This was totally McCarthyesque.

It's insane to blame this on Cummings.

Why don't you deal the fact that Inspector General (a lifelong Republican and Bush appointee) and the person who started the program EACH have testified under oath and under the penalty of perjury that nothing happened?

Given the above facts other than political grandstanding and lying to the public there is no reason for anyone to be investigating this non-event.

congressman yelling at each other in front of cameras? must be important

So your point is there shouldn't be a hearing in the first place, but your butthurt over it not lasting longer? :noidea: He has to validate that she indeed would not testify - not go by what he was told. That happened. That was the purpose of the meeting. Time to move on.

Thanks. Curious how many more times Issa will reconvene his committee for her to take the fifth again. "House leadership" is an oxymoron-the only people who end up there are pols who can't get elected statewide or nationally.

You're right there should never have been a hearing. however, once it was started SOP and protocol should have been adhered to. Only dictators and McCarthyites save they can hold a useless hearing and not allow the opposition normal procedure.

Gumby and Savion Glover would be proud of your attempts to put the blame on anyone other than Issa.

Why won't you address the fact that the Inspector General (a lifelong Republican and Bush appointee) and the self-described lifelong conservative who designed and implemented this "plan" each testified to the committee that nothing happened?

Because that is not the point of this thread -the thread you started.

What was Cummings question?
What was her answer going to be?

Answer these questions before going off on self serving tangents.

b/c congressmen in hearings never, EVER, start their time with some bullshit grandstanding statements

First of all it's totally irrelevant what the questions or answers were going to be. He doesn't have to clear his questions with anyone.

It's completely relevant. He had an opportunity to ask his question, but started making a speech. That's why no one knows what his question was. And the answer to his eventual question was going to be "taking the Fifth." And so you mourn one less grandstanding, BS speech.... purely for "moderate" reasons, I'm sure.

This thread is adjourned.
