The Grizzlies have been decimated by injuries this year. Gasol is out 8-10 weeks. Quincy Pondexter is out for the season. Tony Allen has already missed 5 or 6 games. Conley, Prince, and Ed Davis have also missed games recently due to injury.
James Johnson was signed primarily because they need a body, especially at the 2-3 positions. He is in a good situation though if he plays well. The Grizzlies really lack athleticism and that's one of Johnson's best attributes.
