Jeff Hanneman (Slayer) dead at 49

shit. there's nothing else quite like reign in blood
 
it is presumed that the liver failure is related to the spider bite that he had a couple years ago, but it could be due to a number of things.
 
Kinda crazy to think he lived through the decadence of the 80s rock stars only to be brought down by a spider 30 years later.

So true. Whole album is amazing. I saw Slayer quite a few times and few shows could top the encore of Reign in Blood with the ominous drum riff at the beginning, the flashing strobes, then the fake blood spraying down from above when Hanneman and King rip into those guitar riffs. Four or five of us stopping at Waffle House at 1am after a Slayer show, covered in reddish-pink fake blood, would generate some awesome looks from the staff and others inside.
