Jewish Times editor calls for Israeli hit on Obama

Yes. Our unfettered treatment of Israel has resulted in an uncontrollable theocratic military power with tons of nuclear weapons in the Middle East - the very thing we claim is otherwise untenable.

Israel has never admitted to having nuclear weapons. Much like another country in their neighborhood.

They undoubtedly have nuclear weapons. Lots of them. Our hypocritical treatment of Israel vis-a-vis other countries who aspire to have only 1 nuclear weapon is a weak point in our foreign policy. The point being, they are plenty strong enough now and don't need our support to handle "threats" in their region. We are going to struggle to have a solid, non-warmongering approach to Middle East diplomacy as long as we have blind support for Israel.

And if we walk away fomr Israel it';s a sign for Iran and other nationsa in the region to attack Israel.

It's not about Israel. It's about the crazies who want to start wars and push them into the sea. Israel has proven they are a good partner in peace with Egypt and Jordan over the past thirty plus years.

They'd be happy have to have peace with the rest of the region but it is no way reciprical.

That's because their presence is the reason there's "unrest" in the region.

So we should let them be run into the sea? There was a Jewish state in Israel thousands of years before there was a Saudi Arabia or Yemen or Jordan.

If Iran attacks Israel, it is over for Iran. Israel would destroy that country, and any other country in that region. It has already dominated in wars against these countries, and the disparity in military strength since then has grown exponentially. Israel does not need our support any longer. They are big and strong enough now to protect themselves, and they have been for years.

No one is running Israel into the sea. That is just a ridiculous statement. And to suggest that the establishment of Israel is not the underlying cause of unrest in that region is equally ridiculous. No question they have not historically (since the 50s) been the aggressor. But, they have established through the various conflicts that they don't need to be an aggressor, and that they are not to be fucked with. In fact, if the US would just become truly neutral and release the reins on Israel a little bit, the Israelis would start bitch slapping their neighbors a little and things would likely settle down more quickly.

No if Israel started bitchslapping their nieghbors there would be a regional conflagration.

While I don't endorse abandoning support for Israel totally, the idea that they need our military backing to prevent their annihilation is rather antiquated. They could wipe the floor with the rest of the region at once, in a week.

For decades Israel has been taking blind US backing for granted, and that has led Israel to shift away from policies the US should fully support, and to dismiss US concerns in their foreign policy planning. A recalibration of our relationship with Israel is long overdue. They need to realize that, frankly, our interests would be much better served by creating better relations with the Arab states in the region. We get nothing of value from Israel at this point, but we have a host of determined enemies as a result of our relationship. Israel doesn't even have much strategic value any more, not with our solid relationships with Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and UAE. Those relationships would become even more solid if we cooled on Israeli support.

I'm not advocating we withdraw support for Israel, but these facts are facts. Israel is a cantankerous friend that causes us nothing but foreign policy headaches. That's the reality of our geopolitical relationship. If this were, say, Ecuador, we'd have cut ties long ago. So the fact that Israel basically ignores the US in making their foreign policy is pretty outrageous. Israel shouldn't be quite so dismissive of US concerns about their actions, should they still demand the blanket of US protection.

oh boy, here we go

Yeah, I'm pretty much checking out on this one. My reputation for bashing religions and theocracies is known. The bullshit going on in Israel isn't much different than any other theocracy, it's just more acceptable in American perceptions.

nazi sympathizers, the whole lot of you.
