Live ball in End Zone

Our kick off in the first quarter after the field goal was not fielded and came to a stop just short of the boundary line in the back of the end zone. Was that not a live ball? If so, had we jumped on it, that would have been a touchdown.
 
No, they changed the rule sometime ago that a kickoff into the EZ is a dead ball if not brought out by the receiving team.
