Nebraska’s football program and coach Scott Frost are under NCAA investigation for improper use of analysts and consultants during practices and games, sources told The Action Network.
The school, sources said, has “significant video footage” confirming the practice violations took place in the presence of Frost and other assistants. Frost has obtained legal counsel, and the NCAA has interviewed Frost, multiple current and former staff members, administration and football players regarding the allegations, sources said. The allegations date back 12 months.

Also, last year — when the NCAA prohibited organized athletic activities because of the pandemic — Nebraska relocated its strength workouts to an undisclosed off-campus location to avoid detection by non-football school officials, sources said.

Nebraska self-reported this. Sounds like they're ready to get rid of Frost so they're working to reduce the buyout.

Yeah, what a dumb thing to report. Frost pissed in somebody's corn flakes.

Or he sucks as a coach and they need a way to validate firing a Husker legend.

His record will speak for itself, legend or not. It SHOULD be too late to fire him this close to the season, especially coming off the Covid year. One more year would be the more sensible thing to do when you consider that (1) you aren't going to find a good replacement right now, and (2) you're putting your program in the NCAA spotlight (such as that is, right now) when you will probably have ample reason to can him in December.

If this is the move of Trev Alberts, I question that he's fit for the job already. Maybe this is a Phil Fulmer deal where he hires his buddy.

Edited to add that Alberts says this investigation predates him, so who the fuck knows.

Lotta OWG nostalgia for certain programs like Nebraska, Michigan, Penn State, FSU under Bowden

At least Florida, Pennsylvania and Michigan (to a lesser extent) all have good high school football talent so theoretically they could be good again. The state of Nebraska has about as much football talent as Vermont or New Mexico. There's no chance they'll ever be as good as they were in the 90's no matter who's the head coach. I know Wake fans don't interact much with Nebraska fans but growing up in TX you interact with them all the time. Their fans still think of themselves as a top 10 program. Most delusional fanbase in the country.

They shot themselves in the foot leaving the Big XII. You need Texas recruiting in a state like Nebraska. Granted, they were unlikely to regain their status after Tom Osborne left (some of the Solich teams were contenders, but he inherited that). Osborne had the walk-on program in full effect, but I think he too saw the writing on the wall with the move to the Big XII. As much as they needed that pipeline to Texas, going from the Big 8 to the Big 12 probably doomed them as well. It was always OU or NU winning the Big 8 (and for a short time Colorado) and playing those high-profile games late in the season.

Yep. Schools are after money. Fans want wins. The two don’t always align. Just like how Texas fans are likely to not enjoy their continued mediocrity. Texas as a school will make money but that won’t impact the product on the field or the fans at all.

Have read some articles recently revisiting Nebraska's admission to the Big 10, and how they would not have been invited had it been known they would be kicked out of the Association of American Universities. Also, heavy speculation that AAU member Texas was instrumental in getting other AAU members to vote them out as punishment for bailing on the Big 12.

To show how behind the AAU was, they kicked out Nebraska in 2011 after admitting Georgia Tech in 2010.

See, this stuff reinforces my impression that the AAU is more of an "old boy's club" designed to create the illusion of academic superiority, rather than a legitimate barometer of academic achievement. The lack of transparency in the admission process clinches it for me.

Never hire a UCF coach.

Tennessee is gonna get what they deserve by hiring Heupel. He only got worse season after season and the Vols still hired him.

Not defending Heupel, but the pool of candidates is limited at this point.

Since 2008, when Fulmer left, Tennessee has run through 7 coaches (2 were interim; I had forgotten that Brady Hoke coached TN for two games; one of which was a 18 point loss to Vandy, ouch). During that time, TN is 33-65 in the SEC, and Lane Kiffin is the only one of the seven to get another Power V coaching job again. The Tennessee job is a career killer. Tennessee is just another one of the many crap SEC programs that claims to be relevant because of Bama's success. Bama has beaten TN 14 times in a row. Bama's margin of victory over the last 5 games between the two has been: 39, 38, 37, 22 and 31. Among other teams that have beaten Bama more recently than TN:

- UL-Monroe
- Utah
- Mississippi State
- S. Carolina
- Ole Miss
