The NLRB does not have jurisdiction over public schools, so the ruling by NLRB general counsel Richard F. Griffin Jr. only affects football teams at private FBS schools. Those universities are Baylor, Boston College, Brigham Young, Duke, Miami, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Rice, Southern California, Southern Methodist, Stanford, Syracuse, Texas Christian, Tulane, Tulsa, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.

Let's start writing checks. Finally a recruiting advantage over the big boys!

Like we could write checks to compete with Bama in football or KY in bball...or Stanford, USC, Duke or Notre Dame.

We don't have to. There are 17 of us who can now. None of the big state schools. Wouldn't mind a top 25 recruiting class. Clemson can have their little slide and beach volleyball court. Let's make it rain.

Does this mean that our athletes will now be taxed as employees on the value of their scholarships?

That would be a major unintended consequence of the ruling. Kid gets scholarship. Owes income taxes on $65,000 "income."

No, they'll probably be taxed similarly to graduate students if I'm understanding the ruling correctly.

Believe Hatch said a few years ago that Wake wouldn't play D1 sports if this were the case. May be wrong but recall something related to amateur status being a problem.

Paying athletes might force Wake (and the rest of the 17) out of the NCAA. The "student athletes" at public schools would not be allowed to play against the "employees" of the 17 private schools.

As stated above, this won't stand and will be reversed just as soon as the Donald cleans house at the NLRB.

Come get PAID in the Magnolia League!

Nice.

Can this be extended to non athletes?

Might be the beginning of the end of the NCAA. P5 has way more to gain by breaking off, paying players and getting all the revenue. Will be interesting.
