"Miami (CNN)There were plenty of red flags surrounding the company Jeb Bush was planning to join: lawsuits, bad headlines, even previously convicted drug dealers in top positions.

But somehow Bush seemed to miss them all in 2007 as he prepared to join InnoVida as a $15,000-a month-consultant -- a position that would lead to board membership and stock options.

Just months out of the Florida governor's mansion, the consulting gig with InnoVida would help Bush replenish his bank account after eight years in public service. It was also a chance for him to lend the credibility that comes with being the son of a former president and the brother of a sitting one to a home state start-up making what promised to be a revolutionary new building material.

But in reality, Bush was getting caught up with a smooth-talking CEO who would ultimately be sent to prison for more than a decade for running a $40 million investment fraud. Bush's ties to InnoVida and chief executive Claudio Osorio are resurfacing as the former governor considers a White House run."

ETA: The idea that one of the Bushes had to replenish their bank account is laughable.

Are there any honest and moral politicians on either side? I do not believe politics attracts this type of individual. A sad state of affairs indeed.

Aside from the weird Native American thing that she was told was true as a child, I don't see much to question from Elizabeth Warren.

Misleading. This guy was tied into everyone and was at Obama fundraisers and hilary's which allowed him to rope in more donors. This guy hustled everyone including the government. Pretty sad.

The link says Jeb worked for him. That's different than the guy showing up at fundraisers.

Shaking hands at a fundraiser and being an employee are kind of different.

is there really that much difference between taking money for a job after or taking money to get the job before?

Not sure if you have really looked into this. When Jeb found out I think he gave half the money he earned back voluntarily. Honestly it was a huge hustle this guy pulled and he had everyone hooked in. Jeb even sent out a private investigator to see if this guy was legit. I am not defending JB on this from a partisan way I am just saying this guy was a big hustler and had an amazing business plan that would and could have changed housing across the world esp in disaster areas. Problem was he just took the money and never build the houses. It was actually a pretty sad story.

He needs to hire a better private investigator!

lol agreed.

Even the federal gov't got taken by him.

According to an indictment, Osorio conspired to fleece $40 million from 10 investors and an additional $10 million from a federal government program between 2006 and 2011. The government grant was for building 500 homes in Haiti after its devastating earthquake in January 2010 — a project that Osorio touted to promote his company, but which never broke ground
