“Former president Barack Obama’s official campaign organization has directed nearly a million dollars to the same law firm that funneled money to Fusion GPS, the firm behind the infamous Steele dossier. Since April of 2016, Obama For America (OFA) has paid over $972,000 to Perkins Coie, records filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) show.
The Washington Post reported last week that Perkins Coie, an international law firm, was directed by both the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clinton’s campaign to retain Fusion GPS in April of 2016 to dig up dirt on then-candidate Donald Trump. Fusion GPS then hired Christopher Steele, a former British spy, to compile a dossier of allegations that Trump and his campaign actively colluded with the Russian government during the 2016 election. Though many of the claims in the dossier have been directly refuted, none of the dossier’s allegations of collusion have been independently verified. Lawyers for Steele admitted in court filings last April that his work was not verified and was never meant to be made public.”

The book, “Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin’s War on America and Donald Trump’s Election” by Michael Isikoff and David Corn alleges that OFA hired Fusion GPS to do opposition research on Mitt Romney for Barack Obama’s reelection campaign.
In 2012, then-president Obama had an "enemies list" on his campaign website with the names of Mitt Romney’s biggest donors.
The Obama campaign website (laughingly titled “Keeping the GOP Honest") shamed eight Romney donors for “betting against America,” accusing them of having a “less-than-reputable” record.
"The message from the man who controls the Justice Department (which can indict you), the SEC (which can fine you), and the IRS (which can audit you), is clear: You made a mistake donating that money," wrote the Wall Street Journal's Kimberley Strassel in an April 2012 article.
One of the names on the list was Frank VanderSloot, an Idaho businessman who had contributed to a group supporting Mitt Romney in 2011.
Mr. VanderSloot soon learned what it meant to be on a presidential enemies list.”

In a letter dated June 21, 2012, the Internal Revenue Service informed him that his tax records had been “selected for examination.” The audit also encompassed VanderSloot’s wife, "and not one, but two years of past filings (2008 and 2009)."
What a GD Fraud he turned out to be.

Conservatives are even bad at outrage now. The proper way to frame this isn't to describe opposition research at length as if it's some rare tactic and then say "OMG it was Fusion who they worked with for this research." Too much opportunity for "whataboutism" from the left regarding the ubiquity of opposition research.
Rather, the headline should be incendiary: "Barack Hussein Obama brought controversial, Donald-hating consultant firm Fusion GPS onto national scene in 2012, paving way for Demo-rats to discredit Lord Emperor over fake pee pee allegations."
I mean who wouldn't believe that headline?

Then set about a massive campaign to spy on an opposing party and illegaly unmasking American citizens in order to smear their reputations. Paying $14 million to a law-firm to funnel secretly to Fusion and then repeatedly lying to the New York Times’ Habberman (among others) saying you had no idea who paid for the document. Employing members of the FBI and DOJ to conduct investigations of American citizens on false pretenses and in some cases actively using and paying government employees to participate in the surveillance and smearing of same citizens (Ohr and McCabe)
