Obama will need Israel to sway votes in Congress

This is a horrific thread title. It's in mike89 style.

You're better than this.

a new Reuters/Ipsos poll finds just 9 percent of Americans supporting intervention in Syria, with about 60 percent opposed. As Max Fisher notes, this means intervention is even less popular among American than Congress. Unless those numbers turn around rapidly, it also could set a new standard for the American military going into battle without public support.

Even after the mainstream media has been relentlessly beating the drums of war, most Americans still question the wisdom of attacking Syria. The interests of the American people do not always align with those of Israel. What's "horrific" is that we have elected representatives who live in fear of AIPAC and will cast votes based on what a foreign government wants, not what the people who elected them want.

Actually he won't need Israel. He'll get votes from about McCain, Graham and about six more Republicans in the Senate and almost all Dems. Pelosi wil lget him 80-90% of the Dems. Mike rogers will get most of the Republicans.

Pretty sure McCain and Grabam have said they will vote no because it doesn't go far enough.

No fucking way will he get 80-90% of the Dems. This is a bipartisanly shitty idea and the Dems know it.

McCain said this morning he wouldn't vote for any poorly planned limited strike with no clear goal or exit.

Good. Although he's old and possibly senile (Palin), I value the opinion of someone who has put some skin in the game over career politicians when it comes to starting wars.

Oh, he's got skin in the game alright. He keeps wandering over to there to shake hands with the "rebels."

Total wanker.

Rand Paul's directly lobbying the House to vote no. His dad got crushed moneywise every time he ran for President. Sheldon Adelson singlehandedly floated Newt's campaign. Pissing off Israel isn't helpful for Paul fundraising in 2016. Christie and Jeb will get traditional GOP money. The Kochs will float Walker. Social conservatives will donate to Santorum. A candidate can't win the GOP nomination solely based on small contributors.

Pelosi and Boehner just told the press they support Obama's plan for action.

Pelosi and Boehner suck even worse than Obama does on this

RJ and JDMH, Pelosi and Boehner...I've never been more sure that military intervention in Syria is an awful, awful idea.
