Hope I get to see a sports moment as powerful.

As a High School senior at that time , this action was very shocking to me but as I matured I have come to realize how strong an act it was and the level of fortitude that it required.

I was in 7th grade at the time and I don't remember seeing it on TV, although the '68 Olympics are the first games I remember watching. I do remember talking about it in school where the sentiment was very much anti-Carlos and Smith. I remember one of my teachers talking about how one of them walking back across the track twirling the medal was a sign of disrespect.

It took a long time for people to realize how courageous Carlos and Smith were to do what they did.

But couldn't their act have been courageous and, at the same time, disrespectful?
