Official Champions League 2018/2019 - New & Improved: Arsenal AND Chelsea Free (NWT)

Chelsea should have had 2 more by now but it's looking like just a matter of time. Madrid have no energy or movement when they have the ball, spending their whole possession trying to figure out how to cross midfield

Might be time to change the thread title as it isn't going to be Chelsea free in 2021!

Credit to Tuchel. Chelsea were organized and stuck to their plan. We get to see PuliSICK in a CL final (if Tuchel doesn't start him, he's crazy). Mendy was huge. Impressive way to close it out.

No shit sherlock. Doesn't mean it isn't funny that PSG's one big beef post game was with the ref lipping off at them after they spent the last 30 minutes of the game committing obvious fouls and then whining at the ref when he called them.

Oh goodie! You do see posts with the word Marxist in them, I was worried you couldn't since you are ignoring everyone calling you out for your horrendous take in the PL thread. Glad to see it is just you being a coward about it instead.

Yes, clearly I'm running away. I wrote about it and had my say. Apparently you've now joined the crowd who likes to pretend, for instance, the Soviet Union and all of its little minions were not, in fact, Marxist nations.

nahhhhhh I haven't taken a stance on it, but I have found it hilarious that you are getting dogged and just refusing to address those posts and instead trolling Brasky.

Nope. They are Leninist states. Definitely not Marxist. 1950-70's Cuba and North Korea we could maybe talk about.

The long term vision of Marx took too long for Lenin so he created his own version of Communism. Which was then quickly bastardized by Stalin. Mao then created his own form of it too.

Oh, I've addressed him. We all know he's off in theory land. Suffice to say if "Marxism" was the solution for soccer it sort of bears witness that not one former "Marxist" nation has the economic ability to support a league with the world's best players today. And it is also pretty telling that the Super League system is actually a more "Marxist" business model than the one that presently governs the sport. What pissed him and others (including me) off about the Super League was the idea some clubs could deem themselves too big to fail and pull in other clubs with the lure of even greater financial stability.

The model would actually serve a bunch of domestic leagues well if it could be implemented with pro - rel - still in tact. Seems doable to me. But for it to work you'd need clubs in all the big leagues to sign up for a similar system. Because, for instance, if one league doesn't have a salary cap and all the others do that one league will attract an outsized share of the better players. The idea is to give the sport greater stability and greater potential competitive balance. The super league was essentially looking to do the first and sort of promote the second but only with respect to those 12 clubs (leaving everyone else further in the dust, which obviously is not a move for the greater good as they so claimed).

IOW, when you centralize all economic power - which is where Marxism inevitably leads more quickly than capitalism - it sews the seeds of economic destruction much faster than capitalism. Pure capitalism also holds the seeds of that same destruction (i.e - creating the means for institutions to grow much larger than their competition and thereby consolidate political influence), it just gets there more slowly.

This is a fair and nuanced answer.

Which is why I’m neither a Communist or Capitalist. Democratic Socialism please.

Anyhoo back to footie, do we think Pulisic starts in the final? I say yes. I don’t think Tuchel will press as much against City, and that’s CP’s biggest weakness.

Fair enough. No system is perfect. And DS too has its own massive shortfalls and historically where sort of attempted has created bad economic imbalances that have placed much more harm on the middle and lower classes than intended. But that's past this particular discussion and not really tied to a discussion of soccer's financial structure.

I think so. Credit to Tuchel for bringing PuliSICK off the bench after Madrid were gassed.

He will start him in the final for the reasons stated and his ability to help on the counter. I'd pip City to win. In a game like this I tend to ask what team has a better chance to come back and win if the other team scores first. I think that team is City. But obviously whoever opens the scoring as a huge advantage. One thing going in Chelsea's favor at the moment is the play of Mendy.

I'd be floored if he didn't start (assuming he is healthy, of course). He clearly has TT's trust now.

Who are the minions?

Surely you learned about the Warsaw "Pact" at your Young Pioneers training. NVM the number of "republics" within the Soviet Union whose people had no real interest in being dominated by Moscow. Long live the powerhouses that were and remain Bulgarian and Ukranian professional sports!!
