Official Election Month Thread: COUP falls short, nothing to see here

It’s not. We mean defund the police.

I really think the people who originated the phrase "defund the police" actually meant it literally

ok, my bad. I really thought they meant realigning the funding to remove the bourdon of dealing with mental health issues and other issues that really aren't meant for police, and for re-training officers for community policing.

No cops huh? That's a half-baked idea that will never win a single election.

Yep.

The lesson Dems should learn is that the Pubs are going to call you socialists no matter who you run so you may as well tun someone who stands for something. Our two leftmost representatives in Congress, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib each got record turnout in their respective districts and won MN and MI and more broadly the election for Biden. They run unabashedly on Green New Deal and Medicare for All in swing states. They get out the vote better than nearly any other candidates and fundraise incredibly well too.

I recognize their value, but it also depends where you are. Their districts are D+32 and 26. In order to maintain control of the house, you have to win some R+ districts as well. How many R+ districts have progressives won? If the goal is ideological purity, I get it. But if the goal is also to have the majority of the house, you need moderates as well as progressives.

You don’t support it. That’s fine. Just say that and we can disagree. But don’t tell people to call it something else or water down their demands to attract support from limousine liberals.

I simply don't want to hear it period. It fucking stupid and a waste of time and your brain is broke if you think otherwise. If your goal is for better and more responsive mental health professionals who can quickly deal with non-violent domestic disputes and spaced out people throwing up on the sidewalk, and you think military vehicles are a poor use of scarce funds, campaign fon that; becuse theis Defund BS turns off 75% of the population and pisses off 20% of the population.

unfortunately, I believe that Bernie loses

calling someone a socialist is whatever, but I think with Bernie it actually sticks among some voters that may go either way

nobody is buying Biden as a socialist that wasn't voting for Trump already

Not trying to start shit with you, but there was literally no possible outcome of this election that Democrats weren’t going to use as a referendum against Bernie Sanders and progressives. The Democratic party is dead set on becoming the popular center, and every single situation will be spun and propagandized towards that goal.

I don't know. Black Lives Matter seemed pretty straight forward and it enraged apparently half the country.

Plus me too plus 1619 project plus white fragility

Just give people healthcare and a living wage and fight the culture wars elsewhere

Im liberal as hell and I'm trying to figure out how the African-American woman in her house on the south side of Chicago looking after three grandkids while her daughter works her second shift job in the Back of the Yards doesn't want a police force at all.

If I never hear ideological purity again it will be too soon. Marijuana legalized in MT and $15 min wage in FL.

who said anything about no police force at all?

lol, if only we had just changed the words, then we could have tricked you into supporting it. You know, like the other thousand times where a major policy just had to change its name to become popular.

Dude, no matter how much lipstick you try to put on the proverbial socialist pig, it will not be popular at a national level.

Of course Bernie loses and it isn't particularly close.

Then you are hated equally by the lunatics on the right (not far right, just the now largely insane right) and the far far away left.

It’s not. We mean defund the police.

Beyond certain municipal elections, defunding the police is not a viable political position. Even in a year with the high-profile events that has grabbed public attention.
