Official thread about the movie you just saw

I saw the OG apes as a tv movie in the ancient days before memes when you could watch a movie and not know how it ended. It blew my young little mind.

Fun fact - the Tim Burton movie was the beginning of the end of my Burton fanboy days.

i bet watching the OG planet of the apes in the theater when it came out without knowing anything about the ending was a pretty cool

Which is why it will always remain the best. That and Charlton Heston.

The original sequels not so much. And this new batch is fine, but in line with all the same mindless, recycled crap that Hollywood puts out these days.

Yeah, that 2001 PoTA movie sucked.

Watched Ip Man and Ip Man 2 a couple of weekends ago and then annoyed my family by pretending in knew martial arts the remainder of the weekend.

Watched The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare yesterday and thought it was great. Just two hours of fun and mayhem. It's kind of like Guy Ritchie meets Inglorious Basterds with a bit of Death of Stalin thrown in for good measure. Worth every bit of the $20 rental on Prime.

$20?!? good lord

Watched Iron Claw this weekend, and while I understand that it was meant to be emotional trauma porn, it was a fine movie none the less. However, my main criticism was the casting of Ric Flair. Ric Flair was the world heavy weight champion, he was the best on the mike, he was the best in the ring, he was truly the pinnacle of professionally wrestling at the time. He was everything that Fritz Von Erichson wanted his sons to be, but who they were unable to become, and the weight of that failure weighed heavily on each of the sons. The Flair performance should have been over the top big to highlight the difference between the pinnacle of the sport and what the Von Erichson boys were, a gulf that was so big that it drove their depression and their father's anger. Instead, the Flair performance was probably one of the weakest in the movie.

I just finished Iron Claw and agree with Timmy about the portrayal of Ric Flair. His didn't play a big part of the movie but still, it's Ric Flair and that actor missed the mark, whether that's direction or his own choices I don't know, but it took me out of the movie while he was in.

But I shan't dwell on the negative, it was a really good movie and I never expected to write this sentence: Zac Efron gave a moving performance. I don't think I've ever seen a movie with him before, so just assumed he was just another handsome dude who gets in varying degrees of fitness depending on the role. Like, Baywatch - shredded, this movie - swole. I don't even know about other roles. Regardless, I came away with a newfound respect for him.

This story took place during a time period where I was paying the most attention to pro wrestling, yet I did not expect the revelation for Kerry. I've since seen some interviews with Ted DiBiase and Tony Schiavonni where they said he did well at keeping it a secret.

Watched Iron Claw on a plane the other day and thought it was a lot of good actors suppressed by bad accents and #sadscript. I thought Holt McCallany and the actor that played David were great but Maura Tierney, Jeremy Allen White, Zac Efron, Lilly James and the youngest brother were all just hampered in some way. Agree with the above, the guy playing Ric Flair was awful. I've never watched a minute of wrestling in my life but I know who Ric Flair is and that guy wasn't him. I will say, all the bit role actors were really good, especially the local Texas wrestling TV guy. He felt real in a way the rest of them didn't. The scene were White said "I guess you are my big brother" made me do the Seinfeld "i'm out" gif.

Saw Kingdom of The Planet of The Apes last night with the kiddos. Really enjoyed it. I was expecting a letdown following the Caesar trilogy, but this one did a good job tying into that as well as setting thr stage for the next 2 movies, which it appears will be about humans rising back up against the apes.

Tunnels posters will definitely be rooting for the apes.
